It all started on the Friday night 10th Aug with the visit of our guests Warrenpoint Town FC who played our teams at U13’s Galaxy & U16’s Pre-mier. A great way to build cross border bridges & we welcomed our guests from Co. Down who had a great weekend in Minnistown. Great football by both sides & we thank them for the time & effort that they put in to make this trip to East Meath. For the Saturday in the Cup & Shield in U11’s we seen 32 teams enter & Sunday U12’s we had 16 teams. Fantastic football by all visiting teams & of course our own EMU teams. With the eventual winners being presented with their trophies. Com-miserations to all runners up’s. Players of the tournament also featured too, and a massive shoutout to those that received this award. Great planning from early June from phone calls to emails to all teams that par-ticipated we thank our Registrar & U12’s Devils coach Sinead McDonnell for all her hard work in the organisation of the teams for the Cup & Shield just like eve-ryone else a “Volunteer” in our club. Dave G our director of coaching, Richard Moore from Global Fruits for his kind donation & festival compare too, John, Keith, Neil B, Ivan & Sharon & the lads for making sure everyone was well fed on the BBQ, Damo & Paudi in the club-house for their administration duties up-date tables, scores & fixtures, Paul Bacon for his magnificent work on the structure of teams, pitches & allocation for Refs & games. Mark Sheahan of M.S, Transport, who continuously supports EMU with sponsorship during club events. Ru, the jobs are endless so much to com-pliment you on but fair play & thanks for the “Apres Match Live” which went down a treat with the kids, Robbie C for the PA system & tunes, the car park guys great work lads, the ladies in the shop both in-side & out, praise goes also to those that were stewarding around the grounds mak-er it safer for all throughout the weekend. From grounds to pitches to the all weather, & cafe. managers meetings, we thank everybody for all their hardwork.Feile Success For EMU TrioRecently EMU had 3 representatives from U13’s Galaxy (1) & U14’s Titans (2) re-spectively in Oisin Black, Ben McDon-nell & Darragh O’Brien who were part of the St.Patricks U14 Boys Gaa Feile team who created their own little piece of his-tory by becoming only the third Meath club ever to win a Boys Feile title at any level since the inception of the competi-tion way back in 1982 & a first for St.Pats. This event is to be held at Cher-ry Orchard FC on the 14th/16th of Sept and will be a proud mo-ment for Ryan, his family, his coaches as he takes the next step on the road to full International hon-ours. Best of luck Ryan & well done on this fantastic achievement from all at East Meath United.Karate Do Alex Well done to Alex Hayes from our U10 Blue team who travelled to Portugal to represent Ireland at the European champi-onships at Wado International Karate Do, & great news for this young man as Alex came home with a Bronze medal. This is some achievement at European level so well done Alex, all EMU family are very proud of your achievement & very well deserved. Our aim as always to have our grounds in top shape & create that warm feeling & one to remember for all as they departed from the festival.Tesco “Every Little Helps” In last month’s Meath Coaster we report-ed that Tesco have supported over 11,000 community projects nationwide with €3million in donations including schools, animal shelters, sports groups, elderly care centres, health organisations and much more. The causes supported by the Tesco Community Fund comes in all shapes and sizes and some of these groups in Leinster are certainly a testament to that. Mak-ing their visit to Minnistown from Tesco was Carmel Deegan & Damien Callaghan who presented our Club chairperson Sha-ron Tolan with a cheque. Thank you to everyone in our club & community who have been popping their blue tokens into the EMU canisters beside the checkouts, when shopping in Tesco Bettystown. Volkswagen Junior MastersRecently our U13 Panthers team took part in the Volkswagen Invitational Ireland Junior masters tournament which was held in the AUL Complex in Dublin. The competition seen U13 teams from around Our Academy times are 9:30am/10:30am. Ages from 5 to 7 who desire to partici-pate with other children without follow-ing the recreational team formation rules. The purpose of our Academy is simple at EMU “to provide recreational players who have aspirations of becoming a more ac-complished player an avenue to test and enhance his or her skills whilst providing recreational players an opportunity to train with experienced coaches with the level of play with which they are comfortable with” Make sure you ain’t missing out.Minnistown Clean-UpIn preparation on the eve of our sec-ond FAI Summer Soccer Schools Camp (which took place Aug 6th/10th) & also our EMU Cup & Festival which took place on Aug 10th/12th we held our Clean-Up day in Camp Minnistown.Apart from the coaching of the teams, thanks to those our volunteers who lent a hand from 10am/3pm. Mixing it up with teams like defending champions Belver-dere, Tolka Rvrs & St.Kevins seen EMU feature in 3 group matches against Aisling Annacotty, Tullamore & Knocknacarra on the Saturday. In the Semi final stage on the Sunday for 3rd place seen EMU up against Arklow Town however they suf-fered a defeat which ended their advance-ment in the tournament. Thanks goes out to our Coaches Anto, Dave & Ru who’s consistent training & coaching does not go unrecognised. Also we thank Western Motors Drogheda for making this come through for all and for everything they done for the team on both days from re-ceiving a new kit to lunch on Saturday. Just like July, which booked out in advance, there was another great turn out of children enrolled in this the last camp of the year in East Meath. Looking on it seemed that everyone both boys & girls had an enjoyable week. Lets hope that all the experience that they gained will be put to good use when they return back to action with their team when all league & cup games resumes at EMU. Here’s to 2019 camps.DB Summer CupOur U13 Galaxy team took part in the DB Summer Cup with wins against Sham-rock Rvrs & Leitrim/Sligo & a defeat to table toppers Cabinteely. Junior footballOur junior footballers put in two big displays the past month. The first a fantastic 5-13 to 3-11 win against Nobber and the second a tighter 2-9 to 1-9 win over Moynalvey. Both games showed some fantastic performances from a lot of our young players.HurlersOur Hurlers had some mixed results in this years championship, a brilliant win over Na Fianna was followed by heavy looses to both Ratoath and Trim. The lads now have a big game against Wolfe Tones to look for-ward to in order to secure a semi final spot.Minor FootballersMinor Championship Rd 1: Lads opening round started away to St.Marys/Slane on a Wednesday evening in Donore. There wasn’t much to separate the teams in the first half with both teams missing chances. Playing the better football and miss-ing many chances the lads rode their luck on occasions but had enough to run out 05 point winners and set them-selves up for a good run in the Minor championship. Next up is a home fixture v Jenkinstown Gaels.F/T St.Marys/Slane 1-06 St.Patricks 0-14U16 boysWell done to Aitzol King and Abdul Ola-bisiken who beat Louth while playing for Meath U16s in the Semi Final of the Ger-ry Reilly Cup last weekend U14 boysCongrats to our U14 boys team who have qualified for the Division 1 Shield Final courtesy of a 3-11 V 3-08 win over local rivals Duleek/Bellewstown in the semi-final. The team enhanced their growing reputation with a virtuoso and dynamic performance putting Duleek to the sword right from the throw in. Adam Kirby, Jamie Murphy and Will Kavanagh firing home the all important goals but it was a true team performance that ensured the victory, all 20 players contributing effec-tively to the contest. The Final is fixed for Tuesday eve against Skryne, venue yet to be confirmed.U12 HurlingOur newly formed amalga-mation hurling team St Pats/St Colmcilles AKA the Saints played Donaughmore/Ash-bourne in their first ever hurling final. The saints came up just short but after just 5 months in existence the future is bright in Green, Blue and white, and we know this is the first of many final apperances. At the time of going to press the Ladies Intermediate team are getting ready to host Summerhill at Piltown in what is a must win to reach the semi-finals. The Junior team is also in action this week and well placed to make the semi-finals. Oldcastle are next up for the girls.Our three men's teams had an August to remember when each qualified for the Championship knock outs with a round to go. The 8th sees the U11 boys event and the 22nd sees the u10 event. The latter is now in its 19th year and is a highlight of the calendar. Well done to both groups from your hard work in organisation.
