< Previous© September 2018 The Meath Coaster50Laytown United SFCwww.laytownunitedsfc.com / www.facebook.com/LaytownUnitedSFCOn the weekend of 18th and 19th Aug we host-ed the 2nd annual Seaside cup Tournament. Over the two days we welcomed 57 teams to Seafield, played 135 games of football and cooked almost 1000 burg-ers & 500 hotdogs!!On Saturday morning RTE’s Darragh Maloney set the tone for the week-end with his wonderful speech outlining that al-though there was a competitive nature, the main objective of the tournament was for everybody to have fun and boy did that happen! We had teams from all over Meath, Louth and Dublin taking part and the level of football that was played was phenomenal, from u8’s right up to u11’s.Alongside the football we had entertainment for all; bouncy castles, an inflatable assault course, face painting, by East Coast Face Painting and eve-rybody was very well fed be-tween our BBQ and Tuck shop.We would like to give a spe-cial mention and thank you to all the volunteers who gave up so much time throughout the weekend referees, ball boys, carpark attendants, food prep, cooking and serving, shop workers, medal presen-tation, Jane our PA and Sarah our Photog-rapher. We couldn’t speak about the Seaside cup and not mention Damien O’Connell and Owen Graham, without both of whom © September 2018 The Meath Coaster51the tournament would be a very different experience. The Seaside Cup is the brain-child of Damien and he is extremely pas-sionate about every aspect of the tourna-ment from the football right through to the entertainment making sure that no stone is left unturned and that every single person who leaves Seafield does so with a smile on their face and the yearning to come back again the following year to do it all again. Owen is the brains behind the op-eration, he organises the fixtures, referees and results and he has every single minute accounted for, although there were ex-tremely high-pressured periods through-out the weekend Owen took it all in his stride and keep proceedings sailing along as if by magic. Last but not least the highlight of the weekend for us as a club was our u11s, coached by Martin and Andrew, wining the shield what a way for us to finish off a wonderful weekend. Thank you to all the teams who took part in the Seaside cup 2018 see you all again next yearIreland's Biggest Coffee MorningsTogether with Bewleys.East Meath Hospice Association invite you to join us for Coffee and Chat ,on Thursday September 20th, from 10am to 12 pm,at any of our 4 venues• Whytes Bar and Restaurant Stamullen,. • Linda Donnelly, in Bellewstown Community Centre. • Limekiln Julianstown, and • a new venue Neptune Hotel , BettystownWe look forward to seeing you on the day, committee members will be available, if you have any questions. All money raised on the day will be used locally ,to provide services and assistance © September 2018 The Meath Coaster52Stamullen Football ClubClub newsThe second annual Stamullen Friend-ship cup was on Sunday the 19th Au-gust in Gormanston college. It was a ter-rific sunny day with Stamullen, Lusk and Kilegland playing at under 16 level, dun-boyne, Marino, drogheda and Stamullen playing under 13, and laytown, glenmagic and Stamullen girls playing at under 12 level. All our teams did themselves and the club proud and I have a round up of their performances below. Thanks to all who helped make the day such a special day - to the club secretary, chairman and all the helpers who set up and looked after the food stand, the refs - Anita, Shay and Kieron, the lines peo-ple, the managers, players and supporters who all had a part to play in the success Under 12 friendship cup winners, Stamullen FC with their coaches and Amanda McQuillanof the day. We were delighted to have The Republic of Ireland’s goal keeper Amanda McQuillan attend to give out medals and sign autographs. We are already excited for next year’ cup.Sean and hannahs U12 team has 18 fan-tastic young girls who trained long, hard and all giving 100% effort for our an-nual friendship cup in Gormanston Park. Sean Moore lead the girls into a victory at last years cup , and this year with the help of new coach Hannah Kelly , both coaches had very high hopes for the girls. The girls fought hard against strong teams from Laytown and Glen magic. All the hard work paid off as the girls made it to the final, where they would battle Glen magic for the trophy. After 20 minutes both teams were level and the final went to a penalty shoot out. © September 2018 The Meath Coaster53Sean and Hannah chose three girls to take the shots and this decision saw the girls raise the cup in front of a supportive crowd at Gormanston. Taylor also won goalie of the tournament!Sean and Hannah want to thank all the teams and supporters who were there on the day to make it such a success. And a big thank you to all the coaches and club secretary for all the help leading to the friendship cup.Under 13 girls - coached by Ali and Joe The 2nd Stamullen FC Friendship Cup saw last year’s under 12 girls team move up an age bracket to under 13s and with this comes an increase in players from 7-a-side to 9-a-side. We had invited Marino FC, Drogheda Girls and Dunboyne FC and played each team once. We haven’t played this for-mat before in a competitive situation so it took a little while to settle but when we did the girls played a blinder by draw-ing with Marino and then only being pipped at the post by a single goal against last season’s league winners Drogheda. The girls then clocked off and enjoyed hot dogs, crisps, sweets and drinks and eve-ryone had a fantastic time. The feedback from the other teams was that the day was a great success and they can’t wait for the next one! A massive thanks to the teams for making the journey over, the support-ers and people who helped out on the day. The team extends a warm welcome to our new signing Hannah Farrell who has joined the team this season. We are always looking for new players so any girl born in 2006 with a little experience of either soc-cer or GAA can call Alison Brennan on 087 612 5466 or Joe O’Sullivan on 087 231 1255.In this years Stamullen FC’s Friendship Cup, the U14 League Winners saw them-selves moving up two age brackets to U16 For lots more photos of Stamullen FC see the September digital issue of the Coaster© September 2018 The Meath Coaster54Under 13’s Stamullen squad with coaches and compete at this level. We welcomed two visiting teams; Killegland FC and Lusk FC to Gormonstown. We knew that both these teams were formidable oppo-nents, not least as they’d competed an age group above us last season but they were also in a higher league. It was also our first match playing with several new team members so it was an exciting and memo-rable day for our team. We can safely say that each of the teams, both home and visitors, had a fantastic day of football and massive congratula-tions goes to Killegland who came out on top as the 2018 Stamullen FC Friendship Cup Winners. They thoroughly deserved © September 2018 The Meath Coaster55this win and were presented with a fan-tastic Cup and individual medals. Run-ners up on they day was Lusk FC and they too were presented with medals and everybody was treated to hotdogs, sweets and other refreshments. The Stamullen girls, although not coming out on top on the day, were delighted to have played so well and even chalked up some nice goals against the visitors. It was heartwarming to receive such posi-tive and exciting feedback from both visit-ing and home sides alike and we look for-Two of our fab goalies Shay and KieronMarcus our club secretary working away© September 2018 The Meath Coaster56ward to running the event again next year. Finally we’d like to formally welcome our newest team members to the Girls U16 team; Elena, Genevieve, Alanna and Aine.
