I’m liv-ing in the Bettystown / Laytown area since 1994 so I’m still a blow-in! I am a divorced mum of two daughters and nana to a fourteen month old little man. Having returned to college back in the Millennium, when I graduated I started work with local Funeral Director, F Watson & Son and still working there seventeen years on.In the 70’s and 80’s I worked with CIE in Dublin and in my early years there I was a member of the CIE Athletic Club. I was part of their relay team, 100 and 400m sprints. I was even spotted by the late great Maxi McCullough. Unfortunately, the lure of boys and socialising overtook my prospective running career. I had a brief interlude with ladies football in my teens but was taken off the team as I was deemed too rough.Living so close to the magnificent beaches of East Meath offered every opportunity to enjoy walking, so with a friend, I grad-ually built up to walking five to ten kilo-metre a few times a week. One morning in October 2013 while checking the emails at work I opened one from Meath Fitness advertising the sessions at Seafield, Laytown. It sparked something within me, this was the perfect opportunity presenting itself. I attended the next session and five years on I’m still going twice a week. It was tough for the first couple of weeks building up my fitness level again. The instructors are incredible, so professional that they have this way of taking newbies to a level of fitness in a few weeks without them realising it. The Meath Fitness group are an unreal bunch, spanning many profes-sions and all ages, even all decades up to mine – 60’s. The camarade-rie within the group is exceptional, we all look out for each other and encourage each other through the tougher routines. There’s nothing like banter and laughter to get you through one hundred burpees! On occasion we train to music, on other occasions we listen to the wind and rain. There’s no feeling quite like the feeling at the end of a session on such a night. We might be wet but we go home invigorated and wallowing in a sense of accomplish-ment to enjoy a well earned cup of tea, glass of wine or whatever your fancy.Meath Fitness has transformed me into a new me. I’m fitter, healthier and I’m prob-ably pushing it to say I’m glowing. Out-door HIIT sessions, whether in Seafield in the winter or Bettystown beach in the summer gives us a healthy glow from the inside out. Of course, there is the vanity aspect too; I am two dress sizes smaller since joining. Meath Fitness is also a so-cial group, we have many nights out dur-ing the year and our training has enabled us to partake in events, Parkruns, Gael-force events, Runamuck as a group. Meath Fitness is a family, a family united by a common goal – to get fit while hav-ing fun or even to have fun while getting fit. There’s no better place to train than on the soft sands on Bettystown Beach on a balmy summer evening as in the summer ’18 or on the grass cushion at Seafield in the winter months. And there’s no better family to train with. Meath Fitness is my life changer. The past few months we have seen dogs within our grounds. Dog fouling is an issue that has been on top of people’s mind as the worst form of litter and has been one of the top issues of complaint from members of the public in recent times. Dog owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets in public areas, but unfortunately some ig-nore their responsibilities. It is an entirely preventable health risk and the main reason that dog owners should clean up after their pets. As volunteers of our club we work hard & we endeavour to have the best fa-cilities a club can offer to your child, and of course the best playing surfaces, but how can our members, your kids be safe if visitors both Home & away bring dogs into our grounds. Your dog is your responsibil-ity and not cleaning up after your dog is against the law. Unless your dog is an ‘as-sistance dog or guide dog’ then please have some common sense & act responsibly re-spect our club & leave the dog at home.© November 2018 The Meath Coaster56NDSL Cup FinalsSunday October 14th Seen our PROME-DIA & Photographer Gareth capture EMU Galaxy & EMU Devils in action in the Joe Kirby & David Costello Cup finals against Killegland & Willows FC which where played at Oscar Traynor Park. First up was Galaxy & what an exciting game that turned out against Killegland having gone a goal down Galaxy’s determina-tion & great team spirit in the second half seen them crawl back into the game & go on & win 2-1. Whilst the Devils took the lead against Willows FC and should of been 5/6 up at half time but didn’t take their chances & allowed Willows back in the game 1-1, with 6 mins to play Devils managed to turn it around & a cracking strike of all 25yrds from Conor Black & a MOTM performance secured a 2-1 vic-tory for Devils at the near death. With joy-ous celebrations for both Galaxy & Devils at the final whistle as presentations took place. All images on our facebook page as well as a full detailed report. Well done Galaxy & Devils.EMU Girls Are Go !Recently our girls featured in their first friendly and we had the pleasure of being invited to play Albion Rovers. 9 girls trav-elled with Coach Sinead McDonnell each one gave their all for their team. If interested please contact the club by EMAIL ONLY registrar@eastmeathu-nited.ieTriple Brothers SuccessOscar Traynor Park produced a great suc-cess story for EMU by winning the U12 & U13 cups in the NDSL. The unique thing about this success was that 3 sets of broth-ers took to the pitches to help their teams on to victory in the Joe Kirby & David Costello Cup finals against Killegland & Willows FC. As the image shows the boys proudly displaying their joy at winning the Cup’s and fingers crossed that both will now go on and complete the double by winning their leagues in the coming © November 2018 The Meath Coaster58weeks.
