I reckon we should stay quiet here on the East coast, since we seem to be doing alright out of it, barring the odd storm. I’m not convinced that we humans are responsible but there does seem to be a change in the climate that is accelerat-ing and with that, lots of talk about how we can help. I’m not sure how trading my diesel car for an electric one will help be-cause someone else will buy my old one and drive it anyway, but I don’t want to be a Debbie-downer so I’m trying my best to get on board. I’d really love to get on one of those pro-jects that are cleaning the oceans down in the Pacific Garbage Patch, but its not really practical and I can’t get the time off work, so I’m starting at home. I have 2 kidults who, despite having shamed me into re-cycling years ago, have re-versed and they are now the ultimate consumers, users of single use plastics like cotton buds and straws and the culprits of putting pizza boxes in the black bin. I’m on a (new) mission, while Mr. The View tries his best to remember which cause we are championing this week. I’ve started with a brown bin. Actually, I started with en-quiring how much it would Oasis Childcare Centre Mornington Co. Never one to read anything properly, I fired off an email saying how expensive it was, how it wasn’t encouraging people to recycle yaddayadda! signed ‘Indignant, Bettystown’. I got a (patient!) reply ex-plaining this was the total cost including my other 2 bins as well. With that sorted I took delivery of the 3rd bin and Mr. The View even got on board by buying a little kitchen caddy. It has been an eye opener in terms of how much food is wasted and how much can be recycled. It’s also pretty gross and quite smelly, I kid you not. My plan was to start by lining it with newspaper and then power wash it out after every collection. I got overexcited when it arrived and dumped my grass cut-tings into it before lining it so I vowed to do better after the next collection. I didn’t. It’s such a hassle getting the power washer set up, you need to wear a haz-mat suit and isn’t using all that water against the spirit of what I’m trying to achieve? So now I have a gross smelly bin, a slightly less smelly one and a fairly inoffensive paper bin. I’ve also discov-ered that you can recycle tin-foil in the recycle centre so I have a tinfoil collection on the go as well. So here I am tackling food waste, plastic pollution- which will hope-fully cut down on use of fos-sil fuels, which will help the environment, and ultimately the climate, one smelly bin at a time!. §HOUSEHOLD SERVICESCall Nicky - 041 9887128 087 7734344 A Local BusinessCosmic Cleanwww.cosmicclean.ieT&Cs & Minimum Charge appliesMAJOR DISCOUNTS for Multiple RoomsRug Collection & Delivery Service AvailableProfessional Carpet & Upholstery CleaningSPECIAL OFFER!Noel SavageElectrical Services20 Years Experience • Security LightingFuseboard Upgrades • Rewires, Extra Sockets • Lights, Fully Insured and RegisteredNo Job Too SmallBettystown, Co. This is the case when their annual state pension is over €12,700 per year.Did you know... the inheritance threshold for children is now €320,000 before tax is due. This means that they can inherit up to €320,000 from your estate but everything over this amount is subject to Capital Gains Tax of 33%. This tax will accrue interest very quickly if not paid when it falls due.Did you know... both parents can avail of an annual gift exemption for their child up to €3,000 per year without it counting as inheritance. Parents can setup an an-nual savings plan of up to €3,000 per year (paid monthly if desired) with their child as the benefactor which can be a way of utilising the annual exemption over a long period of time. Did you know... most life assurance com-panies are treating vape smokers as full smokers. This can potentially double the cost of all assurances. There is still cur-rently one company that doesn’t charge smokers the full extra cost.Did you know... most people take out life assurance (mortgage protection), when they take out a mortgage. In some cases this is directly through the mortgage pro-vider who cannot offer the most competi-tive cover or the best benefits.Did you know... not all life assurance is the same. Some life companies have extra benefits for free on their life cover plans. For example, some companies have an extra benefit which allows you, your chil-dren and your parents’ access to a second opinion professional service.Did you know... some companies have more life cover and serious illness cov-erage for children. One company in par-ticular offers up to €25,000 serious illness cover for children, hospital cash payments and overseas children’s cover.Did you know... in most cases these ex-tra benefits do not cost anymore because the life companies will price match with their nearest competitor. What frequently happens is that it is easier for people to take out life assurance with the mortgage so many people are losing out on benefits because they have not reviewed what they were covered for initially.Did you know... many people I meet for the first time are not aware of their pen-sion entitlements at retirement. Most people know that they should save into a pension for retirement but they may not understand what they will be getting from their pension at retirement. As a rule of thumb you are normally entitled to a tax free lump sum from your pension and the remainder of it is income subject to in-come tax.Have questions or would like to chat about any of these topics? Due to our school lo-cation we are unable to walk to and from school, so we decided to create our very own walkway on the school yard. One lap of the walkway is 150 metres long. The children are really enjoying their walks either in the morning, afternoon or throughout the school day. We plan to set up some fun and enjoyable activities for all to get involved so watch this space.Le Chéile AutumnalLocal artists get creative with 3rd class.Laura’s third class had a wonderful time participating in an art workshop with two local artists. We could only use paper, scissors and some charcoal to create a 3-D piece. Although it was challenging at first, we all had great fun and made lots of dif-ferent pieces.© November 2018 The Meath Coaster476th Class shares their enthusiasm for read-ing with Junior Infants.Aidan’s 6th class recently enjoyed a trip to the library with Treasa’s Junior Infants to read some of their favourite stories to the younger boys and girls.1st Class feeling AutumnalOver the past few weeks the boys and girls in First Class have been getting into the spirit of Autumn! Painting autumn trees and learning lots of interesting facts about an gráinneog (the hedgehog). The classes went on a nature walk around the school and collected a variety of leaves they had learnt about in class. It’s cool to be kind in 2nd class.Second class motto this year is “It’s cool to be kind“. We have been learning to cel-ebrate our differences and to appreciate that we are all special. We have been having lots of fun learning about the world around us. We went on a ‘mini-beast’ hunt, did an experiment with soil and printed paintings of autumn trees. In history we have been learning about games played long ago, during the week we played some cards games with our friends.© November 2018 The Meath Coaster48Panic Attacks Treatment Without Medication While deciding what to write about this month, I was view-ing TV AM and they were inter-viewing a young mother who suffers severe Panic and Anxiety Attacks. It brought to mind the absolute joy of how thankfully hundreds of my cli-ents found , in their words , ‘their cure’ by coming to me for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. (CBT) and inspired this Article. Significant research has proven cogni-tive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the most effective treatment for panic attacks and panic disorder. In numerous studies, CBT far outperformed all other psychological treatments, including anti-anxiety medi-cation. Scientific studies have consistent-ly found that CBT is more effective at re-ducing symptoms, the treatment is briefer in duration, and the results last longer for more people, than traditional talk therapy. CBT for panic attacks /panic disorder takes only twelve sessions (usually maxi-mum) Most people report huge improve-ment after just a few sessions. Some respond more quickly, needing fewer ses-sions, while others need more due to other complicating factors such as depression fears phobia’s or OCD. CBT treatment for panic attacks / panic disorder involves many interventions. Here are some • Relaxation Training: extremely helpful in the beginning stages of treatment for panic. Often you have become increas-ingly anxious over time, that your body is overwrought with muscle tension, making you even more susceptible to additional anxiety. Usually relaxation training involves relaxation breathing or progressive muscle relaxation, and methods of decreasing physiological anxious arousal. This reduces future vulnerability to anxiety. • Cognitive Restructuring: A meth-od of becoming more aware of anxi-ety-provoking thought patterns, and replacing them with more balanced, less anxious thinking. Reducing the intensity of reactions to panic symp-toms and feared situations, you further reduce your anxiety, decrease the fre-quency, intensity, and duration of panic symptoms. • Mindfulness: A meditative technique borrowed from eastern traditions is in-creasingly becoming the focus of a great deal of scientific research. Combined in treatment for panic disorder, it’s used to help teach you to experience unpleas-ant physical sensations without reacting negatively thus short-circuiting the vi-cious cycle of fear and panic. • Exposure treatment: Once you feel more able to confront anxiety-provoking situ-ations. Systematic Exposure Interven-tion is used helping you face what you normally avoid. You defuse the fear as-sociated AND no longer fear or feel it in the future. • Stress Reduction: reducing stressors is an important part of treatment for anxi-ety. A combination of learning to react to situations calmly and reducing unnec-essary stress, help improve your overall quality of life. Do you CHOOSE a lifetime of Anxiety and Panic or CHOOSE a few weeks treatment to eliminate or control it? I am an expert in brief treatment for anxiety, using only the most cutting-edge scientifically proven treatments.
