Kelly found Costello, who's quick-fire shot from outside the box gave the keeper no chance as he found the bottom left hand corner of the goal to make it 3-2.Balscadden had no response, as man for man, Stamullen matched their neigh-bours. Stamullen had more chances of their own with Butler and Mc-Carthy going close on 2 occasions from corners. Then deep into stoppage time, the hosts got their 3rd goal, but it was a mere con-solation as Stamullen claimed a fantastic victory. With 5 remaining league matches our Sen-iors aim to finish as high as possible in our very first season in the AUL Division 1.Players Wanted!!! All of our squads are back and busy playing plenty of matches and train-ing hard! Academy is very popular every Saturday morning, and numbers are grow-ing rapidly with almost 50 of our young-est footballers enjoying themselves every week! Saturday afternoons sees our Foot-ball For All in full swing!Football For All In Full Swing by Erin SmithOur official launch of EMU Football For All went ahead on 7th April. We had all the children from the taster day attend on Day 1, and the coaches continued to imple-ment some basic training drills. By week 3, the progress was very visible! Coach Stephen’s update as follows “It’s been a © May 2018 The Meath Coaster53busy couple of weeks on our Football For All Programme. We had our third full ses-sion last week in glorious sunshine on our excellent all weather facility. Attendance has been really good and the coaches are getting to know the players a little more each week. Feedback has been positive and the team continue to learn and adapt the sessions to suit the range of abilities in the team. We look forward to seeing the boys and girls kitted out in EMU blue over the coming weeks as they are now an integral part of our community club.”Over the first 3 weeks, the coaches and helpers have involved every child present in one way or another; it is a very diverse group of kids in terms of ages and abili-ties, and we hope to bring the joy of foot-ball to each one of them. For some they jumped straight into drills and games with already honed talents; some others are just beginning their journey with football. This is a group welcoming of all levels and abilities and we do have a limited number of spaces available, should your child be interested. Thanks to SOI for a truly special day for the EMU Family!FundraisingOur Fundraising Committee are hard at work selling tickets for our Spring Draw. If you’re around Ministown between now and the 13th May, please dig deep and support. We have a lot of plans for our grounds in Ministown, and hope to begin work on our Pitch No 1 drainage project very shortly. We were successful in se-curing €45,000 in Sports Capital Fund-ing for this, however, there is a consid-erable amount more needed to complete the works. We are also busy planning our next application, and hope to progress the building of a clubhouse in the com-ing years! With so many young players in the club, we are very focussed on working hard to provide the best possible facilities for them and the wider community to use! We need your help to do this! A massive Thank You to Gormonston Sand & Gravel who kindly offered their services free of charge to complete some necessary works at our car park entrance! Coaches Corner - Just A Philosophy? At its time of formation, almost 20 years ago, the founder members of East Meath United took the decision to model the club on FC Barcelona. It was with the greatest of Respect that such an Ambitious model be chosen and it wasn't to be just as simple as wearing the colours and claim to have such wonderful players. The Catalan's motto of "Mes Que Un Club" ( more than a club) sets them apart from the rest in many ways and it was with this in mind that EMU looked to em-brace all the Barca Values. Our Academy (La Maisa) is the life blood of our club. Dotted all around our teams are the fin-est of players who initially came through © May 2018 The Meath Coaster55our Academy system. It's here that the foot-ball philosophy begins. Barca's 'total football' approach was first intro-duced by the late great Dutch legend Johan Cruff. It's a hard act to follow but our Ambi-tion is to get a football at every child's feet and of-fer them the opportunity to learn the Fundamen-tals of the game. With the Teamwork of all coaches, players and parents this philosophy can be further enhanced by trying to play the right way. It's doesn't take a football expert to real-ize that your goalkeeper kicking the ball straight to the talented striker will win games but the remaining 3,5 or 7 players on the team will hardly improve. And so by making a conscious Effort to pass the ball each child has at least a chance to progress while also feeling like they're taking part. Not all our players will be the next Messi or In-eista but with excellence comes success and many of our teams have shown that you can achieve great things while still sticking to core values. And added to this so many of our experienced coaches and successful players continue to display Humility in coming back to work with some of our youngest players. With this in mind we say the mission at EMU continues to be that if every child who comes through our system, embraces the core values, and turns out to be a well rounded individual then it's a job well done. §EAST MEATH UNITED FC 2018 Spring Draw Big Prize Opportunity! How much will you pay?You can pay between 1 cent and €15 for your ticketYou only know when you open the Envelope. Well done all don’t forget training on Wednesday evenings 6:45 – 7:30 and we are always welcoming any new Boys or Girls that want to give it a go.Under 12 ladies battle brave but just loose out t table toppers. The U12 girls once again battled bravely and showed real character against league leaders Colmcilles. Pats had the lion’s share of the ball in the first quarter play-ing with the wind but could not get scores easily against a very compact Cilles de-fence. In what was a very entertaining and competitive game the Cilles ran out Senior FootballIt was a mixed month for our senior footballers who played two rounds of the championship this April. The first was against Ratoath in Ashbourne where the lads came back from the dead to earn the draw with a last minute pointed free. The lads were at one stage of the first half 10 points down and went into the break 8 down. The lads faced Rathkenny in the second round in Duleek and were unfortunate to be beaten by two points in a very tight game. A New Generation!A new generation of St Pat’s Stars took to the field this morning in Pilltown, Ci-ara’s and Padraig’s under 7 Boys and girls © May 2018 The Meath Coaster57winners in the end. Once again Megan Gifford proved training hard gets results on the day and put in another great per-formance. Tola Abinboboye and Faye Wardell teamed up in midfield and put the shoulder to the wheel from the first ball thrown up. Cadhla Burns had a run-ning battle with Cilles No.10 and never gave up. Another great team performance which was noted by parents who gave a huge round of applause as the girls left the field of play. With 2 rounds left to play we need to have full attendance at training as we need to put ourselves in the best posi-tion to try and win our next game and give us a chance of a top 4 finish.Under 14's ladies prove too strong for Simonstown.St Pats 9:6 - Simonstown 2:3.This game was a tough physical game for the full 60 minutes. We played with the wind in the first half with our forward line (Becky, Emma, Ci-ara, Lauren, Megan McCormac) linking up well and scoring 4:2 to Simonstown's 2 points. Suzanna had a running battle with her marker midfield ably supported by Abigail Dungan in the first half. The second half against the wind started with Suzanna and Megan McCormac run-ning midfield. The defense ( Summer, Abigail, Megan Strolia, Sinead, Keelin) stood firm under the expected blitz. We traveled with 13 players and no sub-stitutes today. To their credit, every single © May 2018 The Meath Coaster58girl stood-up to be counted today and eve-ryone played hard fast football for the full 60 minutes. That's 3 wins from 3 games with our toughest games to come. Well done to everyone today.U12 HurlersWell done to our U12 hurlers who gave a great performance against Ratoath in their first game of the year. Again the team is a combination of players from the Pats and our neighbors St Colmcilles and we’ve no doubt this will bring huge progress to hurling in the area. Our Senior Men’s team made an excellent start to their campaign with wins over Rathkenny and many people’s favourites – Wolfe Tones at Pairc Tailte-ann. Our Junior team also topped their group in the B Champion-ship with good wins over Donaghmore-Ashbourne and Dunboyne and his-tory was also made as we fielded a third team for the first time. Operating in the Junior D champi-onship the third team lads had a super win over Cur-raha at Dunshaughlin in front of a big crowd. Un-fortunately the Champi-onships now take a break to allow the county sea-son proceed but hopefully we can keep our fine form going into the next phaseLadies ChampionshipWhilst April might have Congrats to the Senior Men’s team with their two wins in the Championship last month Our Junior Men’s team are soaring high in their group after April’s roundsNext >
