Cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia, (CBT) is an effective treat-ment for chronic sleep problems and rec-ommended by many doctors as the first line of treatment.CBT is a structured program helping you identify and replace thoughts and behav-iours that cause or worsen sleep problems with habits that promote sound sleep. Unlike sleeping pills, CBT helps you overcome the underlying causes of your sleep problems. How does CBT work? You learn to recognize and change beliefs that affect your ability to sleep, helping you con-trol negative patterns that keep you awake, while developing good sleep patterns .Using some of these CBT techniques:• Stimulus control therapy. This removes factors that condition your mind to re-sist sleep. .• Sleep restriction. This treatment re-duces cleep time causing partial sleep deprivation, making you more tired the next night. .• Sleep hygiene. Changing basic lifestyle habits that influence sleepand includes tips that help you sleep better..• Sleep environment improvement. Ways to create a comfortable sleep environment• Relaxation training. Calms your mind and body.• Paradoxical intention, avoiding any ef-fort to fall asleep. • Biofeedback. Observation of biological signs such as heart rate and muscle ten-sion and how to adjust them. CBT v PILLS Sleep medications can be effective short-term treatment but may not be the best long-term insomnia treatment.CBT is a great treatment choice for long-term sleep problems,if you're worried about becoming dependent on medica-tions, or if medications aren't effective or cause side effects.Unlike pills, CBT ad-dresses the underlying causes of insomnia rather than just relieving symptoms. Insomnia and other disordersInsomnia is linked to a number of physi-cal and mental health disorders. Ongoing lack of sleep increases your risk of health conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and chronic pain. Some medications, including over-the-counter medications, also contribute to insomnia.Insomnia is unlikely to get better without treatment.Finding helpGet professional help from a Therapist like myself who specialises in treating In-somnia and other Health Issues. The type of treatment and frequency of sessions can vary. The whole community was plunged into mourning following the heart-breaking loss of the beautiful young gentleman. Our current under 8’s coach and former player Lee Conroy felt that he would like to do something in Max’s honour and to pay tribute to him in some way, so he ap-proached his former Laytown Utd team-mates & Coaches and suggested that they reunite to play a match in memory of Max, their former rivals at Donacarney Celtic were only too happy to be their opponents on the day. Once Max’s Mam Tracy gave her blessing for the match to take place it was all systems go and what was to follow was nothing short of a miracle. What started out as a simple match be-tween two local clubs turned into a huge event that was supported by businesses and individuals from near and far alike. We even received a message of support from former Ireland International Dam-ien Duff. The volume of donations that came in was unprecedented, we received food, drink and all manner of prizes which enabled us to serve hot food and refresh-ments as well as having a massive raffle on the day with well over 100 prizes up for grabs, the most coveted of which was an amazing €1000 Holiday Voucher very generously donated personally by Tracy and the Woods family and was won by the lovely Eithne Birney. Laytown Utd were the eventual winners © May 2018 The Meath Coaster47Bebras Computational Thinking Finalson the day of the Max Mason Memorial Cup, which was very generously donated by, Southgate Barbers, but really it was never about winning or losing a football match the whole meaning behind the day was to unite in honour of Max, to allow us to stand in solidarity as a community and to show our support to Tracy and the Woods family. Thanks to the hundreds of people who attended on the day and everybody who helped organise the event, those who donated food and prizes this dream was realised and in the process a staggering €6750 was raised from raffle ticket and food sales as well as cash donations made in Seafield and in Tesco Bettystown, there is also almost €3000 raised through the GoFundMe campaign and it is possible that the figure will rise still before it is presented to the chosen charity, Jigsaw, a charity which is very close to both Max and Tracy’s hearts. If you would like to donate directly please visit www.gofundme.com/benefit-match-in-max-mason039s-honour §Keri Russell representing Whitecross National School at the Bebras Na-tional Computational Thinking Finals in Maynooth University on April 21st.
