< Previous© June 2017 The Meath Coaster40Gormanston CollegeOur school year is coming to a close and Franciscan College Gormanston has had a year to be proud of. Events have included an Anti-bullying Week, a Wellness Week, Sci-ence week and Maths Week to name a few of our special events. We have supported many fund raising activities and invited many guest speakers to our school. Below is a picture of the TY Stu-dents taking part in the final part of their Gaisce Bronze Award with a trek and an overnight stay in Newgrange. They have also just recently returned from Barcelona which included a visit to the Nou Camp Stadium. We are very proud of our Clann Sysytem here in Gormanston too. Every stu-dent becomes a member of either Clann Eanna, Clan Froinsias, Clann Antoine or Clann Padraig when they join our school community and throughout the year students are allocated points for good behav-iour, academic achievement, ef-fort in class and commitment to extra-curricular activities. The Clann who wins the most points by the end of the school year goes off on a school tour. This year Clann Eanna with 2162 points have gone to Puddenhill to take part in Laser Tag and Karting. Our week ends with our Annual Prize Giving Ceremony for 1st, 2nd and 5th years where academic achievement, along with hard work and commitment is celebrat-ed. Prizes are also awarded to those stu-dents who have excelled at sport. On their final day in the school our 6th years will attend their graduation ceremony and the announcements of next year’s prefects and Head Girl and Boy will be made. We wish all our 6th years best of luck for the future whatever path they choose to take and hope they will come back to visit us to share their experiences. § © June 2017 The Meath Coaster41Underlying Causes of Panic Anxiety Fear and Phobia’s To continue on from the last 2 months ar-ticles here. These are SOME of the causes of Panic Anxiety Fear and Phobic reac-tions. Everyone has their own root cause, and Psychotherapy will help you find yours, eliminate that root reason allowing you to be FREE. Genetic Predisposition Some are born likely to develop panic at-tacks under the right circumstances, and some people couldn’t have a panic attack if you paid them. We’re all born with a variety of innate tendencies. If you have panic attacks, this is one of yours. It can also be a learned behaviour that as a child you saw in someone else. Both can be treated successfully. Anxious trends during childhood A second reason is that as children, you may have grown up in an atmosphere which failed to teach you that the world was “your oyster”, a safe place where you can be happy. Maybe an early death in the family, se-vere illness, or some serious problem like alcoholism divorce or abuse Maybe the parents were themselves anxious and over protective, perhaps in response to their own anxiety disorder. Perhaps you learned to spend too much time and effort taking care of others, try-ing too hard to please others, and feeling responsible for the happiness of others. A Response to the challenge of emerg-ing adulthood The third reason is you often experienced high stress and stressful changes in the year or so prior to the onset of the panic at-tacks. These might have been bad events, such as feeling trapped in a bad job or rela-tionship, or experienc-ing the loss of family and/or friends. Or you may have had a lot of changes which weren’t bad in themselves - finishing school, changing jobs, getting married, moving, buying/selling a home, having babies, etc. - but which had a cumulative stressful effect to the point that you found it hard to cope with them all. What These Factors have in Common What causes panic attacks to invade a per-son’s life? None of them were under your own control. These are all developmental events in life which happen to some peo-ple. The factors which cause panic attacks are not something you could have con-trolled. There is therefore no reason to feel guilty, ashamed, or apologetic about having pan-ic attacks. They are not the result of living badly; or of making bad choices; or of be-ing “stupid”, or cowardly. Your Problem, not your Fault If you have Panic Disorder, then panic attacks are your problem...but don’t be confused into thinking that panic is your fault. Your psychotherapy session will help you get the control you need in just a few hours here. Email today for your Consultation bernicemckenna@hotmail.com. I will help you then. §© June 2017 The Meath Coaster42Cilles Athletic ClubWell it’s been a truly magnificent May! A brilliant personal achievement for the ladies and for us as a young club, super running and well done to you all.The celebrations didn’t stop with the post race cup of tea. Cilles AC is celebrating it’s third birthday and we partied in fine style in Moran’s of Mornington. Somehow everyone who ran the 10k summoned up the energy to dance into the small hours, could have been something to do with DJ skills of one Niall Bennett.May in summaryEarly May saw James Smith put in a strong performance at the North Leinster schools Championships to win gold in the 800m. Super running James, well done. Drogheda and District graded series took place in the Lourdes stadium on a glori-ously sunny evening, some great per-formances by Cilles AC athletes, well done to everyone who took part. A fan-tastic bunch of Cilles AC juveniles were in action at the Meath championships in Navan, Holly Brennan came 1st in the 1500m, Cormac and Kevin Ffrench came 1st in the long jump, I haven’t room to list everyones achievements but know you’re a terrific set of young people and you do yourselves, family and club proud.Cilles took to the roads of Bohermeen for the Meath roads relays on 9th. Our la-dies A & B teams took home silver and bronze in their grades - well done El-lenor, Meg, Ciara, Deirdre, Lauren, Sio-fra, Holly and Mairead. Tim Donnelly celebrated his birthday by running the Navan AC 6k road race on the 12th, sup-ported by a great bunch of Cilles AC run-ners, amazing times were run on a very warm evening. James Smith finished 3rd in the Leinster 800m schools. Holly Brennan finished 2nd to claim the Silver medal in the 1500m, Aaron Smith ran a good time in the 1500m and is showing improvements in every race. A well deserved result from a group of hard working committed indi-viduals representing their School. 7 teams from the under 9s to senior men took part in the Meath sprint relays in Claremount stadium, Navan. Great to see the CIlles AC colours out in such numbers.First club individual senior medal Ciaran Smith made Cilles AC club history by claiming bronze in the Meath champi-onship 3000m. Ciaran ran a fast opening half of the race and was in contention until the last 1200m, an injection of pace from Fergus (the eventual winner) with 3 laps to go saw a gap appear between the top two and Ciaran. Ciaran dug deep and held a fast pace until the end to claim the Sen-ior bronze medal. A super month for the club and its ath-letes. All the events listed above can be read about in more detail on our Facebook page - ‘Cilles Athletic Club’, give us a like and keep up to date with what’s hap-pening. DIVAS DO THE DOUBLEOur U14 Divas continued to make Club history this past month as they topped o their perfect rst season by adding a Cup win to their already impressive League win. The Divas took on League runners up Ardee Celtic F.C. in what proved to be a fantastic game on a sunny day in United Park. Donacarney enjoyed a healthy percentage of the possession in the opening stages of the game, but Ardee’s well organised defence proved hard to breakdown. It was a long range shot from Brianna Martin that nally broke the deadlock on the 30min mark. Donacarney didn’t have everything all their own way with Ardee putting them under pressure for spells during the game. Howev-er with the Divas maintaining a really high work rate throughout the match and with every player showing a real determination to win the ball it wasn’t long before they secured their second goal on the stroke of half-time. Ailbhe Horan steering one into the back of net from the back post to nish o a superbly weighted cross from Eimear Brennan. Brianna Martin would go on to secure 4 goals in total on the day resulting in a 5-0 nal scoreline, enough to earn herself the Player of the Match award. A fantastic performance from every player on the day. Well done to the girls and their coaches on a fantastic rst season.
