Really enjoying the warm weather and the new summer league format. The girls teams are winding up their re-spective leagues and cups. This month we are doing a roundup of the under 10’s girls team. Next month we will feature the other girls teams so keep your eye out for that.Seniors newsWhat started on the end of August away to Celtic Park in a convincing 5-0 victory, began a maiden voyage for the Stamullen Senior Football Team.Stamullen Football Club never had a senior team before. Through-out the 9 months that followed, our form in 2017 was pretty decent, seeing us go on a 9 game winning streak in all competitions, 8 of them in the league, that lasted from January right up until the 7th May.We held our own against any top team in the league, although we finished 4th, our injury list had already 9 players down in early October and the squad was fairly depleted. Still ,to muster up a great bit of form in 2017, we were in con-tention for the league right up until our penultimate match of the season. The 2017/18 season will be met with gen-uine optimism as Peter Byrne will look to bolster his squad.Anyone interested in joining our senior team please contact our manager: Peter Byrne 083-196 3434Over 35’s NEWSStamullen FC’s Over 35 team took part in the inaugural Irish Bayrisch Cup in Gormanston College this month. The competition saw two German teams, FC Weiden Ost and FC Nesselwang, fly in specially for the competition. The Irish were represented by Schalke Rovers from Baldoyle, Frankfort FC of Raheny and Stamullen FC’s very own Pensioners. The Friendly International Tournament kicked off on a beautiful morning in the picturesque surroundings of Gormanston The under 10’s girls team is managed by Sean and Nicola, they have a great squad of really enthusiastic footballers who are improving week on week and always give 100% at every training session and match. They had a great first season and are looking forward to what next season will bring. Highlights of their season would include the recent NDSL cup tournament in the NDSL., playing (and beating) their parents in a match and a trip to the Olde sweet shop in Malahide. © June 2017 The Meath Coaster51College, with all teams eager to get their hands on the winners trophy. In the end that honour went to Schalke Rovers, but it was a close run thing as, with two games to play, anyone of Schalke, Weiden-Ost, Nesslewang or Stamullen could have lift-ed the cup. The whole competition played out in great atmosphere, there was a competitive edge to games but total friendship throughout. Plans are already underway for next year where the Irish teams travel to Bavaria to do battle once more. A big thank you to Eamonn Rooney (FC Weiden-Ost) who dreamt up the idea and Co organised, also to Schalke Rovers, Frankfort FC and FC Nesslewang for making the day such a success. Thanks to Turlough Maher, our referee for the day who kept us all in check and on schedule. Finally thanks to Stamullen FC’s commit-tee, the staff in Gormanston and everyone that helped bring the tournament together. The first a hugely disappointing 6-13 to 0-12 defeat at home to Wolf Tones and the sec-ond a 2-19 to 1-14 defeat away to Navan. But with a number of players missing on these occasions it was clear there were bigger days ahead. That bigger day came in the form of the first round of the championship against Skryne in Duleek. With the sad passing of Peter Russell former player, commit-tee member and father to Niall, our sen-ior football manager, the week before, the lads were really focused and up for this game. And this showed after recovering from a slow start to beat the Skryne men, 2-16 to 1- 10. Next up in the champion-ship is Ratoath.Junior FootballersOur junior footballers had only the one league game this month and it was away to Skryne. The lads came away with a hard fought draw in this one after a few dodgy refereeing decisions which left a few of our lads scratching their heads. Final score Pats 0-15 Skryne 1-12. The result leaves the lads sitting in mid table. The big one for the juniors this month was a local clash against Cilles in the first round of the championship in Seneschals-town and there was no way we were com-ing out of this game with anything less than a win. Like the seniors a couple of days before we got off to a slow start go-ing two goals behind before we had even got started but after this the lads settled down and started to pick off the boys in blue and ran out handy winners in the end on a score line of 2-14 to 2-7.U17It what capped off a fantastic week for the Pats the U17’s won their league final by beating St Olivers 4-9 to 2-12 in Dun-ganny. Let’s hope the lads can follow up on what the U17’s achieved the week earlier and add another piece of silverware to the club this year. Best of luck lads. U14Well done to our U14 team on a great win over Moynalvey/Boardsmill which confirms a semi final place with a game still to play. Led superbly by captain Sean Baxter, the team won 6-10 to 2-10. The final league game will be a home game v Castletown on Tuesday 6th of June with the semi final to be played the week after that. Well done lads.U10Round four of the Go Games saw the St. Patrick’s Under 10s travel to Dunshaughlin at the weekend, with another great perfor-mance from this bunch of lads. Spectators were treated to an excellent display of skill and teamwork over two games with players rotating positions and using right and left feet and hands throughout. The Under 10s train every Wednesday at 6.30 and new players are always welcome.U7What a fantastic performance today from our awesome under 7's. We had our first Gaelic football Go Games match, away to Donaghmore Ashbourne. There were three games in total, this was to accom-modate such a high turnout of players. With each member of our under 7's arriv-ing onto the pitch like warriors to a field of battle, covering every blade of (zoned) grass and with total focus on the task at hand. There was only one thing on the minds of our players this morning and with fire raging through the veins of each St Pats player there was always going to be only one outcome. We are very proud of every child for the respect shown to both the opposition and the referees on the day. The future of Meath Gaelic football is very bright. We would also like to thank Adrain Mulholland for stepping in on the day to referee one of our matches and all Parents who sacrificed their Saturday morning so their children could represent St Patricks GAA and under 7's.U14 HurlersThe U14 hurlers had a mixed month with one win and two defeats. The win came against Boardsmill on a score line of 5-4 to 0-4. This was a huge win for the lads and a massive step in the right direction for Pats Hurlers. Pats Ladies make history! There was a little bit of history created in Navan on May 12th as our Adult Ladies won our first Championship game since going as a solo last year. This was a great Start to the 2017 Championship campaign against a very good and always threaten-ing Simonstown team.It was a real ding dong battle right up to the final whistle, we thought we had the upper hand midway through the second half going 9 points up, but to their credit the Simonstown girls showed why they were Junior C Champions last year and cut the lead to 2 point with only minutes remaining. It was a very nervy few min-utes for the Mentos and supporters on the side-line but on the pitch the Pats girls in all fairness remained calm and composed and got the result over the line.© June 2017 The Meath Coaster54Not a polished performance by any account but nothing we can work on and fix on the training pitch. Finally thanks to the Simonstown B Girls and mentors on a very fair and good man-nered game well martialled by Colm McManus in the middle of the park, all the best of luck going forward in the championship Ladies.Final Score Simonstown B 4-07 St Pats 3-12U16 LadiesOur brave U16’S went down to a very good Ratoath outfit in their Shield final. It’s was one of the gutsiest second half performances I have seen in a very long time, you would have forgiven the girls if they dropped their heads at half time after a very dominating first have display from Ratoath and a half were lady luck seemed to have deserted the girls in green and white, as they hit the cross bar and post twice, this could have had a huge impact in the latter stages. In true St Pats style In the hot sunshine these girls came out fighting for every ball in the second half and showed everyone the reason why they had made it to this final in the first place, I counted 7 unanswered points in the last 15 minutes and if one or two had slipped in under the crossbar who knows what might have happened, that said we would also like to extend our congratulations to a very good Ratoath on their great win.I’m sure when Pat Tom and Louise reflect on this campaign they can only see it as a very successful couple of months not many teams get promoted and 12 months later they are competing in finals again! So huge well done to the mentors and of course those savage sixteen’s who never know when they are beat!!U12 Girls Continue to impress:As usual lots of good news story’s coming from our ladies section, be it our ladies team competing well in both league and Championship, our 16’s reaching Finals and our 14’s on the verge of qualification in their league, but there is one very big story developing at our U12 age level. Not only are these ladies on the verge of qualifying for the Division 1 Semi-finals, a first for the club but they have also added another first for the Club with no less than four girls making it onto the Meath U12 Panel for the 2017 season. When I spoke with Ollie Bowe a little earlier today he had nothing but praise for these girls and explained how they caught our eye from the very first trail, how comfortable they were with ball in hand their enthusiasm, and of course their great attitudes. He went on to complement our mentors on how well the girls were prepped and pre-pared for the trials, so hats off to Dave and Phil on the continued great work they are doing at this age level, but all the big con-gratulations must go to Susanna Schutz-mann, Rebecca Harney, Aisling O’Neil & Keelin McKeon on your great achieve-ment girls, and we have no doubt that you will represent your club with pride as you line out in the county colors in the months to come, Best Of Luck from all your proud supporters at St Pats LGFA! §© June 2017 The Meath Coaster55U16 Boys Win The TitlePride of place this month goes to the U16 boys who claimed the U16 Di-vision 1 title and the Benny Caffrey Cup with a good win over old rivals Don-aghmore/Ashbourne. This was a special and very sweet success given that the group has been on the wrong side of final results at u12, 13 and 15 level and there was simply no way that the boys were go-ing to be denied this time. In the end they put on a powerful show to finish 4-9 to 1-2 winners to spark wild scenes of cel-ebration as Captain Ross Molloy collect-ed the silverware. The saying goes that “Good things come to those that wait” and great credit is due to everyone and the consistency and courage shown over the years. Enjoy the celebrations everyone. Congratulations to all of you from all of us and we look forward to seeing you all to coming through to adult level over the next few yearsU14 Junior Girls Reach The FinalOur U14 Junior Girls have been having a great season and put in a superb display to overcome Walterstown to reach the Divi-sion 6 final this week. This is a great re-sult for one of our hardest working ladies teams who go out every day to enjoy their games and friendship. Hard luck to our U14 Senior girls who were desperately unlucky in losing the Division 1 semi-fi-nal v Dunboyne. It’s a huge achievement to reach a semi-final at this level and you should be very proud to come so close to the final. We look forward to seeing you continue to progress through the yearsGolf Classic A Great SuccessThe sun beamed down, the course was immaculate. We simply couldn’t have asked for more as our intrepid band of supporters and sponsors took to Laytown Bettystown Golf Course on Friday 25th May. Our thanks to all our competitors, all our sponsors and to all the subcommittee who worked so hard. Well done to all our winners and hard luck to the very many of us who are still looking for balls ! However a very special word of appreciation to Laytown Bettystown Captain Denis Taylor and all at Laytown Bettystown for your help, support and kind welcome. However all 4 teams faced the toughest of tough open-ings with the Ladies facing favourites Donaghmore Ashbourne in their first ever match in the Intermediate ranks and un-fortunately the “Moors” ran out emphatic winners on the night. Our Men’s A team also faced the hardest of starts taking on the Champions Simonstown Gaels in Navan. In a match billed as the “Clash of the Champions” involving the Interme-diate and Senior Champions of 2016 we served notice of our arrival at the top stage in really putting the fight to our more il-lustrious opponents. In the end having A Big Thanks to all our Golf Classic SponsorsLá na gClubannaSunday 6th May was designated National Club Day and once again the St Colmcilles family came out in force to enjoy a day of fun, activities and friendship. The food and tuck shop was superbly manned by our Feile Peil na nÓg parents who did great job and raised some funds for their © June 2017 The Meath Coaster57looked to have salvaged a draw, a mo-mentary lapse of concentration and a truly brilliant score saw Simonstown claim full points. It doesn’t get any easier in round 2 with the most decorated team in the coun-ty Navan O’Mahonys next up for the lads. Our Ladies B team made their first ever start in the Junior D championship but un-fortunately went down to Ratoath. It’s a massive achievement to be fielding two ladies Championship teams and with the good numbers of players coming through it’s a crucial outlet for player development and progression. Heads up guys there are more rounds to come ! The Men’s B team faced old rivals neighbours St Patricks in Round 1 of the Junior Championship and looked to be coasting to victory but were pegged back by the Stamullen boys and eventually fell to a 7 point defeat. It was a disappointing performance by a team who have much more in the tank and who no doubt will have a big say in this competi-tion yet so drive on now ladsAt league level our Ladies team claimed their second brace of points with a great win away to Moynalvey whilst the Men’s A team have pushed themselves into the promotion places with 4 rounds to go. The maths are simple for the lads as 4 wins in our last 4 games guarantees a league final place and promotion back to Division 1. Both our Men and Ladies B teams are also poised for promotion at the time of writ-ing but face some very tough tasks aheadUnderage Football & Hurling UpdatesA special word to our u14 Hurlers who claimed their first win of the season mak-ing the long journey deep into hurling country to face Boardsmill and return with the points. Well done to you allThe Go Games series is steaming ahead with all age groups from u7-11 in full flow. The u12 boys teams are all going well with semi-finals looking likely. The u12 girls teams have already booked its semi-final and face Walterstown next. The u14 boys teams are also nearing semi-final stages with the Division 1 team guaranteed a semi-final place whilst one more win should see the Division 3 team make a semi-final. Hard luck to the Divi-sion 7 team who just missed out but who have had a great spring. With continued hard work over the summer they will be a force at U13. Preparations for the National Feile in Monaghan are going well and thanks to everyone who has supported the fund raising efforts. The boys enjoyed a trip to Trillick in Tyrone recently where they were hosted by the Donnelly brothers and the local team.Good Luck In Your ExamsFinally as we finish up this month week we want to say a special word and wish Good Luck to all our players and support-ers who start their exams over the next few weeks.
