We really will miss you and we hope that you all ful-fil your enormous potential. © July 2017 The Meath Coaster22School Yearbook 2017The Coláiste na hInse Yearbook was a huge success, selling over 400 cop-ies. The full-colour, 192 page tome was designed fully by Idirbliain students and they visited Anglo Printers in Drogheda to see their books coming off the presses. It was a fantastic trip, allowing the students to see how the publishing industry works, from the design to the final printing pro-cess. Thank you to all at Anglo Printers for your help and support, and also to local businesses for their support of the book. Lá Spóirt Lá Spóirt was a fantastic day with the sun coming out to provide the perfect condi-tions for students and teachers on a day of classic events including sprints, relays, the sack race and the ever popular egg (or po-tato?) and spoon race! Once again, thank you to all at St. Colmcille’s GAA club for hosting our junior years at Piltown, while the senior year groups remained on the school grounds.CNI Students Presenting a Cheque of €7,500 to Crumlin Children’s HospitalColáiste na hInseCNI Students with their Yearbook at Anglo Printers,© July 2017 The Meath Coaster23Trip to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin by Erin Murphy & Leanne Keogh. We had the privilege to present our cheque of over €7,500 to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin. All of the money raised was from our annual 5K Fun Run which was held at the start of the school year. The Fun Run was a huge success with every student contributing their part in getting sponsorship. The day started off with 7 of us members of the Sports Council leaving the school and making our way up to Crumlin. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Rachel and Gerry who proceeded to give us a tour of the hospital which included with the car-diac unit, the medical tower, the school within the hospital and the day ward.We got the opportunity to see the huge benefit that our fundraising has on the hospital. For example the whole cardiac unit was built solely off money fundraised by schools, businesses etc. After our eye opening tour of the hos-pital we were presented with a medal of recognition for our work in raising such a huge amount. We are delighted to have raised such an enormous sum of money for a great cause and we are reassured the money will make a difference to the lives of the children in Crumlin.Congratulations to Junior and Leaving Certificate StudentsCongratulations to our exam classes for completing their state exams. We wish them, and all students, parents and staff, an enjoyable summer break. We return on August 24th, see you then! Meals on Wheels GolfEast Meath Meals on Wheels are holding a golf classic in Laytown and Bettystown Golf Club on Friday 21st July. We supply 80 to 90 meals weekly to our Clients in our local community which are delivered by volunteers. As the meals are subsidised we need to fundraise to make up the deficit. The pro-ceeds of the golf classic go a long way in covering the shortfall of the service. Louth & East Meath T.D. Dublin. Cuchulain and his loyal charioteer Leag Mac Riangabra would travel the ‘sea road’ to visit Emer, this involved crossing the river Nanny. On returning from one of these visits, Standish O’Grady in his book “The Tri-umph and Passing of Cuchulain” tells us: “When they came to the ford of the Nemnech, the sparkling and shining one which is to-day the Nanny Water, Laeg said: - “This stream is very dear to me ever since I was a child, for it has its source in a well on the side of the Hill of Gabra, where is my father’s dun. Therefore Nemnech has been like a dear friend and comrade to me always. The prophet that is in Tara hath an-nounced that my mound of burial will be on the north bank of the stream hard by this ford and that my name would be on this place for ever.”Just over 0.5km west of Laytown, on the north bank of the Nanny, is a large burial mound known locally as the Mote. It was excavated in 1982/3 and found to contain two Iron Age interments. It is widely believed that this is the burial place of Cu Chulain’s charioteer – Leag MacRi-angabraTHE DEATH OF LEAG by Francis Ledwidge “Sleep lays his heavy thumbs upon my eyes, Shuts out all sounds and shakes me at the wrists. By Nanny water where the salty mists Weep o’er Riangabra let me stand deep Beside my father. Sleep lays heavy thumbs Upon my eyebrows, and I hear the sighs Of far loud waters, and a troop that comes With boughs of bells “Call us on 041 9886545 for an appointment.Email: bettystowndental@gmail.comWeb: www.bettystowndental.ieTriton Road, Bettystown, Co.
