They will respond to cardiac/res-piratory arrests, choking incidents, chest pains, and strokes. The team hope they’ll never be called, but if needed, they’ll be there. There were school lessons every morning with a focus on cultural exchange. tivities including sports, dancing, making sand castles, bowling, visiting New-grange and last, but not least. ... a school movie night with fish and chips!Unfortunately, the days passed by far too quickly and the children soon had to bid each other farewell. Following representations I have made on behalf of Deepforde resi-dents, Meath County Council have writ-ten to their Louth counterparts asking for this important work to be carried out. A footpath has already been provided to the County boundary outside Stameen. The onus is now on Louth County Council to finish the job to Five Oaks. This is a very busy main road and there is a serious issue, particularly for parents of young children who have to cross the wide road heading towards Drogheda. This work should be done as a matter of urgency before a serious incident occurs. As a young family man who grew up in Stameen and later Grange Rath, I will continue to do all I can to help ensure that road safety measures are a priority on the Dublin Road.Traffic Management Scheme For JulianstownI am pleased that €300,000 has been allo-cated for the Julianstown Traffic Manage-ment Scheme following strong lobbying on my part to the Council. The volume of traffic passing through Julianstown is at unacceptable levels and the traffic man-agement scheme will provide some relief for local residents. Longer-term, a Bypass is needed for Julianstown to deal with the huge amount of traffic through the village and to improve the quality of life for local residents. I supported a recent motion at our Council meeting calling for a Bypass for Julianstown.Beach Wardens & Life GuardsNew beach wardens have been appointed for the Summer season; two beach wardens have commenced work al-ready and a third will start shortly. Three new life guards have also been appoint-ed. The lifeguards are working full-time hours over the Summer season. Rail Commuting Costs From East MeathAt the June Local Municipal District meeting, I put down a motion demanding that the NTA restructure the rail fare sys-tem and include Drogheda, Laytown and Gormanston into the ‘Dublin Short Hop Zone’. Train stations at Naas, Sallins and Kilcock were recently included into the ‘Dublin Short Hop Zone’. Cilles AbúCongratulations to St.Colmcille’s GFC on recent successes in both underage boys and girls football. The club is growing from strength to strength. A huge well done to everyone involved with the Cilles.Advice Clinics & Further InformationIf I can be of help to you or your fam-ily, feel free to drop in to see me at my monthly Advice Clinic held on the first Wednesday of every month in Moran’s Pub, Mornington at 8pm. At this time of year we send out a plea for volunteers to help in getting Julianstown spik and span for Tidy Towns judging, so we were more than delighted to get a call from a group of Albanians of-fering a hand, and wow what a difference they made. You may have seen the group cleaning verges, cutting back briers, weeding, and general tidying throughout the village and garden. .... (and a delight-ful bunch they are, nothing was too much trouble, fair play to them. Come into the garden on a Saturday morning and we will introduce you). The whole area around the Ballygarth, Castle Grove and St Patrick’s villas look amazing thanks must go to Paddy and Fiona Rothwell for keeping the green and area looking so good. This year we have made a concerted ef-fort to allow some grass edges areas of the village to grow, and a little less mowing in the garden, this is to allow insects, to pollinate, we have made a meadow maze at both ends of the garden, great for the children to run through and look at wild grasses and plants.Have you noticed each year is an abun-dance of one plant or another this year it’s the cordaline/ New Zealand flax. The long flower stalks that open to colourful seed heads that the small birds just adore. It took a lot of hard work, commitment, help from our friends in Mosney, and yet we could still do with a little bit of help with weeding, painting and spreading bark in the garden. If you happen to have an hour or two on Saturday morning please come along and give a helping hand. We would really appreciate it. Again many thanks for all your help with keeping Julianstown looking good and let’s hope the Tidy Towns Adjudicator thinks so too. What a lovely day we had for Julianstown Summer Festival in our village garden on the 11th June; it was a wee bit windy, but the rain thankfully stayed away. We would like to thank all who attended the event and especially those who brought all that lovely food. The cakes were delicious. Niall our en-tertainer was just wonderful at keeping all the children amused with his magic tricks and puppet show. Mirela worked tireless-ly facepainting and what a job she and her friend did. Many thanks to Clarkes Fruits, John Rogan for the milk and cream, and thanks also to Coca Cola for their drinks. Most of all we would like to thank all our volunteers who made this day possible for our community to enjoy!Following the huge success of the Mos-ney Road/Briarleas street party last year, the residents are hosting a party in Reilly’s Daffodil field, Mosney Road on Saturday 8th July at 3 p.m. BBQ served around 4 p.m. Pass the word around to all residents!News from Julianstown © July 2017 The Meath Coaster17If only some-thing could be done with the Old Mill! .Giant hogweed is in bloom at the moment, and the sap contains tox-ic chemicals known as furanocoumarins. When these come into contact with the skin, and in the presence of sunlight, they cause a condition called phyto-photodermatitis: a reddening of the skin, often followed by severe burns and blistering. It can be found on the R. Nanny near the bridge, Ballygarth Rd., and Pigeon House Lane.Upcoming Events in AugustWe had the pleasure of meeting Mary Sadlier (owner of Cooleswan liqueur) at Bloom and she has very kindly offered to put on Afternoon Tea for us in August. We are just finalising the finer details, so keep an eye on our Facebook Page for more details. Ticket Only event! The Heritage Council of Ireland and Meath County Council are helping us with a new Pollinator Project for the vil-lage. We started to create our three acre Garden in 2007 and after a lot of hard work dig-ging, planting, fund raising, we now have a beautiful award winning treasure! There was a time when kids looked forward to a picnic with sand-wiches and a flask of tea and if you were lucky, some lemonade and a chance of an ice cream before heading home after a day at the sea. Unfortunately times change and now kids get filled with sugar and other rubbish, leaving the packaging behind as you can see in the photo taken one recent Saturday. We will have a greater number of people vis-iting and it is up to us all to not let our guard down regarding keeping ourselves and our families safe. If you are on the beach be mindful that people are in a holiday mood and the brains in some switch off. We have come across broken bottles, hot portable barbecues just under the sand, cars driving without care on the beach and children not aware of the potential dangers that this fine weather brings to our lovely East Meath. We also have motorists who are unfamiliar with the area and especially in Bettystown, they find the layout con-fusing and are liable to do silly things. We are still looking for volunteers to do a tidy up and plant job in our planter at the rail siding near the bridge in Laytown. We can be contacted through our Facebook Laytown Tidy Towns page. Alternatively you could contact James Ellis on 0872705456 if you are interested in helping out. All offers of help would be greatly appreciated. We meet at our usual place at the Coast Tavern every Saturday at 10am to litter pick in the village and along the beach....if anyone is interested in joining us, they are more than welcome. §Cool Beanz Official OpeningThe recent heat wave resulted in a very successful.opening of Bettystown’s Cool Beanz and some good money was raised for charity as well.
