Thank you to the parents who donated prizes and to all families & friends who bought tickets. And again thank you to all the local busi- nesses who continue to support us each year. I am pleased that following strong representation I made on behalf of residents living along the Tower Road, Mornington, and submissions made by residents themselves, Meath County Council have agreed to make changes to the plan to try and address the concerns of residents before it is submitted to An Bord Pleanala. This is good news. It is clear from the submissions that there is huge support for the project in the area. But it is important too that the project commands the support of those who live along its route and who will be directly impacted by it. Flooding is a risk in the area; there are environmental concerns around birdlife, and the proposed route itself taking in front gardens along Tower Road needs to be addressed to the satis- faction of all residents living there. I fully support the project and the potential it has as an important local recreational and tourist route. I look forward to seeing the re-drafted proposal and working with lo- cal residents and Meath County Council to deliver the project as quickly as pos- sible for the area. New ‘Village Centre’ Planned For Donacarney I’m supporting a proposed new commer- cial development for Donacarney which New County Development Plan The new Draft County Development Plan is now on Public Display until Fri- day, March 06 th 2020. The Plan can be viewed at the Council Offices in Duleek and Navan, and also online on the Coun- cil’s consultation portal at http://consult. meath.ie/. For a full outline of the process, please refer to http://countydeveloment- planreview.meath.ie Anybody can make an observation or submission via the following two options only; 1) Registering on https://consult. meath.ie/ where you can then make a sub- mission on the draft chapters, topics and map sheets. You can also submit drawings of any areas relating to your submission Council Update By Cllr. These shops will be a great addition to the area if given approval. I am working to en- sure there a new pedestrian crossing at the top of Church Road as part of the scheme along with footpaths.© January 2020 The Meath Coaster 23 on an interactive development plan map. 2) Written observations or submis- sions can also be made. These should be marked ‘Draft Meath County Develop- ment Plan 2020-2026’ and submitted to the Planning Department, Meath County Council, Buvinda House, Dublin Road, Navan, County Meath C15Y291. Observa- tions or submissions must include the full name and address of the person(s) making the submission and where relevant, the body or organisation represented. Observations and submissions will be made public on the Council website and at the offices of the Planning Department. Submissions that are emailed cannot be considered and will be returned. I am available to work with Clubs, groups & individuals on any ideas and/or issues you wish to raise on the new Plan for our area. Traffic Calming Works On The Dublin Road I am pleased that on my proposal, road safety measures were recently carried out outside Stameen on the Dublin Road. Road safety in the area is an issue I reg- ularly raise with the Council, the Road Safety Officer and the Gardai. The work has included the putting in place of traffic islands and new hatched road markings. I am particularly pleased that new cycle lanes to link in with existing cycle lanes on the Dublin Road form part of the com- pleted works. These works will help slow traffic down and will facilitate both pedes- trians and cyclists using the Dublin Road down to Drogheda. I continue to lobby the Council, the Road Safety Officer for County Meath and the Gardai on serious speeding and road safe- ty issues in the area, particularly on the Colpe Road, in Donacarney, Mornington, Julianstown and the Beamore and Piltown Roads. Bus Shelters For East Meath Following the recent installation of new bus shelters in the Laytown/Bettystown area, I have written to both Meath Coun- ty Council and the National Transport Authority requesting new shelters to be put in place at Coney Hall, Mornington, Donacarney, Grange Rath and on the Dub- lin Road outside Deepforde. Residents need to be able to access high quality public transport services. I will continue working on the inclusion of more loca- tions in our area as part of the bus shelter rollout programme. Clinics / Further Information I hold monthly clinics in the East Meath area and am available to meet anytime also upon request. If I can be of help to you or your family, please contact me directly on 086 0432760, by email stephenmckeeff@ gmail.com or through Facebook at Cllr Stephen McKee. Thank you. § Caption: Cllr Stephen McKee at the launch of the new development at the top of the Mill Road which will see the development of a new Business Park providing local jobs, new homes and new road infrastructure.© January 2020 The Meath Coaster 24 Family Resource Centre - Official Opening T he Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection Regina Doherty officially opened The East Coast Family Resource Centre in November in the Vil- lage Hotel, Bettystown. The excitement began as we approached the village and feasted our eyes on the fantastic Christmas lights. At the Manor House, guests were greeted by crackling fires, delicious canapés and re- splendent surroundings. We relaxed with friends while Joanne played Christmas tunes softly on the piano. The Garda Band lifted the tempo as they filled the banqueting hall with singing and playing. We danced, we sang and we laughed with friends, past and present.
