East Meath branch of Drogheda Credit Union has been busy helping out local organisations, charities and schools over the last few months with some much needed funding. Eamonn Newell College Li- brary celebrates its 5 th Christmas with the ‘novel’ idea of a Christmas Tree made of some of the 5,500 book stock! Thanks to the students who helped create the tree. Photographed are 1 st Year students who regularly use the library. The library is open at lunchtime every day thanks to the support of parent volunteers. Green Schools Sow Wildflower Seeds Having researched the importance of wildflowers on Ecosystems, the school through its Green Schools Committee, arranged to sow wildflower seeds on the campus. It is hoped the wildflowers will provide a habitat for pollinators, provide food in the form of leaves, nectar and pol- len and also shelter. In return insects will pollinate the wildflowers enabling them to develop seeds and spread to grow in other © January 2020 The Meath Coaster 9 places. The wildflower seeds were sponsored by Blacks Garden Centre, Julianstown and Friends of Franciscan College Gormanston – this is a collection of Past Pupils and staff interested in supporting the school. quotes and completed a treasure Hunt around the college grounds. Garda Workshop on Drugs Senior students received a very interesting presentation about all aspects of drugs and the serious dangers associated with them. Thank you to the local Gardai for such an informative talk. § Human Rights Day 1 st Year students raised awareness around Human Rights Day on 10 th December 2019.
