< Previous© September 2019 The Meath Coaster 50 Castlehill Riding Club I t has been a very busy month for the members of Castlehill RC, with many competing, training and pleasure rid- ing with their horses. Armagh based Ard Lú Riding Club recently hosted a “Hack and Snack” in the Cooley mountains, and Justyna Adam and her horse Molly had a lovely afternoon enjoying the beauti- ful views. An ideal way to spend a lovely summer’s day. Some of our members enjoyed club flat- work training over cavaletti poles with dressage rider Emma Kieran recently, which was hosted by Kate Hutcheson at her yard in Gormanston. Our members benefitted hugely, so thanks to Emma and Kate for organising. Club member Shona Lynch and her horse Ferdi Whitmore competed in the Work- ing Hunter (pony under 158cm) class at the RDS Dublin Horse Show, where this amazing duo placed 2 nd . The AIRC Connolly’s Redmills National Dressage Championships were held on Sunday 18 th of August, where Castlehill RC qualified a team to compete. It was made up of Club Chair Lindsey Ilona Brady (Trigger Joe), Club Secretary Olivia Nolan (Bridgemount Esker Lily), David Smyth (Sel Livewire) and Klara Ralph O’Connor (Castleview Ozzie). The weather was very changeable, but the team had some blistering results from their morning and afternoon tests, for a combined finishing score of 416.19%, and just missed out on placing by 1%. There were 148 matches in total resulting in approx 2,220 minutes of Foot- ball being played throughout the weekend. A big thanks to Callaghan Butchers Bettystown for looking after us and sup- plying the delicious burgers (and for mak- ing up extra at very short notice on Satur- day evening), a massive thank you also to William in Pats Supermarket Laytown and Patrick in Pat's Centra Bettystown for donating the buns for burgers and hot- dogs. A huge big thanks to all our volunteers who worked so hard in the build up and over the whole weekend, but of course none of this would be possible if it wasn’t for four key people: Damien, Owen, Lor- raine and Dave. These guys are the backbone of the Sea- side Cup and they have put in a serious amount of work, not only throughout the tournament but for the past many months making sure everything was in place and organised. Our u16s had an absolutely fantastic time at the weekend when they travelled over to Liverpool with LLS - Your Tour , once again the guys in LLS did an amazing job of looking after the lads and they all came home happy, with fantastic memories and bonds forged that will last a lifetime. We would like to give a special mention to the two coaches of the u16s Aaron Kirby Mooney and Lee Conroy , these two lads are only 20 years old themselves and have been players with Laytown Utd since we started the club 10 years ago, the com- mitment and dedication they have shown Laytown United SFC www.laytownunitedsfc.com / www.facebook.com/LaytownUnitedSFC© September 2019 The Meath Coaster 53 this team since they took over last season has been second to none, they are a huge source of inspiration to their players and the younger guys have nothing but respect for them, keep up the great work lads. Thank you to Andrew and all at Callaghan Butchers for very generously sponsoring our u10s with a new set of Jerseys. §© September 2019 The Meath Coaster 54 New Season 2019 - 2020 A ll teams from our newly formed u8' up to our U18's return to action in early September. Thus far, it has been another success- ful year for the EMU Academy, kids are developing, learning new skills, making friends and having fun which is of para- mount importance for our Academy. The new U8 Boys were formed so it was a little sad to see them depart the Academy but this is progression. Best of luck to Ja- son, Francesco and Trish. If you would like to bring your child down to Academy and give it a go for a few weeks they would be more than welcome. Two St Colmcilles teams took to the field for the first time, throwing in at the same time and at different venues. The Division 1 team backed up the Minor League success with a win away from home over a strong Trim side whilst the Division 4 team made the short journey to Donore to play the St Marys/Slane combination and came away with an excellent win. Team spirit and squad mentality were the order of the day for both sides as they made it a night to remember for the club. Round 2 sees the Division 1 team host St Ultans/Cortown Gaels/Round Towers in Piltown whilst the Division 4 team hosts Gaeil Colmcille at Seafield. Both games throw in at 7pm on Wed 28 th August and all support welcome !
