The group received a golden buzzer from judge Jason Bryne earlier in the se-ries which bounced them straight into the semi-final. BSD is a team of 39 dancers aged 10-17 and they have collectively won €50,000. They also receive an hour long special on Virgin Media TV.Best of luck to the Stamullen children making their First Holy Communion in Gormanston College church on May 11th.On Tuesday the 28th of May please drive with extra caution around Stamullen vil-lage as the Michelle McKiernan 5K and Fun Run hosted by Star of the Sea AC will be taking place that evening. First on their qualification for the 2019 European Twirling Champion-ships in Slovenia – a group of 53 people are travelling to the event (coaches, judges, sup-porters, and of course the twirlers themselves) – good luck! In other exciting news the club has been crowned national champions for the second year in a row. At the national championships, which were held in Stamullen recently, their members won a tidy amount of sil-verware – 43 first places, 35 seconds, 28 thirds, plus many medals, and the overall trophy of course.Did you know Gormanston Park hosted an international rugby match last month? The facilities there are busy every week-end but this time it was rugby league with the under 19s RLI team playing the Scot-land rugby leaguers with a keen crowd of locals supporting the home team. Sadly Scotland won 20 to 6 with two late tries from the Scottish side. The away game re-mains to be played. Those looking for an increase in fitness before the summer may be interested in the new Jungle Body classes at 7p.m. on Wednesdays in St. Patrick’s GAA club. These planters were placed here to stop people parking their cars on the footpath. Two more planters have been ordered to place further along the path. To continue our work we do need more volunteers to assist us with planting bed-ding plants, planter weeding and watering, painting and litter picks. Join us any Sat-urday morning between 10 and 11, even for half an hour. Suggestions and ideas are always welcome and can be sent to us on our Facebook page or speak to us when we are out and about in the village doing our work. §As part of our biodiversity and pollinator friendly works we are clearing the vacant site behind the statue of the ‘Boy Flying a Kite’, near the beach entrance. We aim to turn it into a wildflower meadow which will add some nice colour and become a haven for the bees and other fauna. Last November we started working on clearing the rubbish, cutting back the grass and painting the wall at the back of the site. New top soil was added and a path was created through the site using bark. Some plants have been planted and wildflower seeds have also been sown. We installed a bench at the bus stop at The Neptune Hotel, as there was no bench for people to use while waiting on a bus. The bench matches the planters and is made from recycled plastic.GREAT RANGE AT TRADE IN WELCOME WARRANTY GIVEN FINANCE ARRANGED NCT’DStation Road, Lusk, Co. Stephen McKeeIrish Cement Apprenticeship Open EveningThe Apprenticeship Open Evening that I organised with Irish Cement recent-ly in Duleek Courthouse was hugely suc-cessful. Through active demonstrations and advice given by current employees, young people from across East Meath who attended were told what it is like to ‘earn and learn’, with Irish Cement com-mitting to offering a number of Appren-ticeship places later this year. Even if you or a family member were unable to attend, opportunities are still open. Please get in touch with me and I can advise. I will con-tinue to do all I can to encourage and pro-mote local Apprenticeship Schemes for our young people. Boyneside TrailPublic Consultation Evenings with the de-sign team will shortly be advertised and I would encourage as many people to at-tend to discuss any issues. I fully support the project and the potential it has as an important local recreational and tourist route; however, I do not believe that the engagement with local residents along the proposed route in Mornington has been good enough to date and there's a lot more work that needs to be done to allay con-cerns of local people. Flooding is a risk in the area; there are environmental con-cerns around birdlife and the proposed route itself taking in front gardens along Tower Road needs to be addressed to the satisfaction of all residents living there. I will continue to work with residents and Meath County Council on this issue.Greater Co-Operation Between Louth & Meath County CouncilsI’m pleased that my motion calling for greater co-operation and a proper joined-up plan to be put in place between Louth & Meath County Councils was supported by all Councillors and adopted at our most recent local area Council meeting. I am happy to lead this fight and am actively campaigning for the Drogheda and East Meath area to receive the investment for job creation & services we need to reach our full potential and to ensure proper planning of infrastructure & services into the future. New Footpath Between Donacarney National Schools And Bettystown CrossWe were informed by Meath County Council at our last Council meeting that O’Reilly Stewart have been appointed Consultants for the new footpath/cy-cleway between Donacarney National Schools and Bettystown Cross. As a past-pupil of the school, this issue has been a Cllr Stephen McKee alongside David O’Brien, Irish Cement Plant Manager and Helen Bennett, HR Manager at the recent Irish Cement Apprenticeship Open Evening. © May 2019 The Meath Coaster19MEATH COUNTY COUNCIL PRIDE OF PLACE 2019Meath County Council 2019 Pride of Place competition is now open.
