< Previous© July 2019 The Meath Coaster 50 Our 2012 Academy players enjoyed their last Academy training session this month. The players and their coaches will enjoy the short summer break before returning for some pre-season training ahead of the next chapter in their footballing journey. The players and coaches will be commenc- ing their U8 season in September. The Club would like to thank all of the Coaches on an excellent job preparing the players for this next step in their journey and best of luck to all the new U8s as the begin their next phase in the NDSL. DONACARNEY CELTIC F.C. Academy Graduation Congratulations to our U16s who have finished off a fantastic season as NDSL League Winners! Led by Captain Daniel Scally and Vice-Captain Oisin Murphy, the lads played an almost flawless season with a record of 15 wins, 1 draw and two defeats during the campaign. The team demonstrated the both the best defen- sive record and highest goal tally in the league, highlighting the high levels of football played both individually by the players and overall as a team. Results like these doesn’t come easy though in the highly competitive North Dublin League! It was only made possi- ble through the determination and passion of the players themselves as they had to push themselves in every training session. A fantastic achievement for all of the Players and Coaches involved. To win a League is always impressive but to win having played entertaining pass and move fluid football is always something special. Congrats Champs!! Summer Soccer Schools Our FAI Summer Soccer Camps are almost fully booked, but we still have a few limit- ed spaces available. So make sure to book your place today...! This event is also open to non-members U16 NDSL Champs With that in mind the coaches needed re- training or rather their vision adjusted and so along came the Coach Education Path- way. It was considered hugely important that coaches around the country understood their role in fulfilling the Player Develop- ment Plan and the Coach Education Path- way was put in place to facilitate those that wish to coach with grassroots clubs and those with ambitions to work with elite players. In an ideal world, no football team would play a game without a qualified coach ap- propriate for that level. It is a specialised skill to be working with young people – you are essentially a teacher if you are working with children. You need to learn and develop the skills required to coach children to maximise their potential. Players need coaches whose focus is on player development, helping to build con- fidence, motivation, freedom of expres- sion and thereby creating a positive learn- ing environment, making playing and training enjoyable for the players. Some- thing that we at EMU embraced with great gusto and vigour. What’s Changed Now why you ask has she just rambled on about PDPs and coaching skill sets. Well here’s your answer: Due to several changes within the FAI some leagues have chosen to abandon the PDP formats, to winter and larger format soccer, against all evidence pointing to how suc- cessful the PDP has been. Just look back at my article from earlier this year and obviously now if the PDP didn’t exist I would not be dedicating my time to the Scorpions a group of ‘highly spirited’ under 8s or to writing this piece explain the journey we are all on to you. Some players may only have had 6 months of a league playing together, have formed a nice bond only to potentially have the rug pulled out from under them. They along with a lot of other teams inter- nal and from surrounding clubs will miss out on key game skills developments, de- sign to be gradually added in year by year to ensure they hit educational and skill milestones. Obviously we don’t want to see this hap- pen and as a club are doing our level best to weigh up all our options before and decisions are made regarding our own league affiliations. An independent working group from out- side the club committee have been com- piled for the purpose but Rest assured we will and always have Put The Players In- terest Before Our Own. §Our 2012 Academy players enjoyed their last Academy training session this month. From September they will progress to 7-a-side, so in order for all players to keep getting as much game time as pos- sible we will be forming two u10s teams. It was a short but great season for all our teams, so we are looking for- ward to a few weeks off before we gear up for the new season. Gary’s under 12s - league winners 2019 These lads started off their season in the D league but after their first game suc- cess, the NDSL decided they move them up 3 league divisions. The lads accepted the challenge and pushed hard till they got what they deserved. They won the league by 5 points in the end and came close to winning a cup also. A huge thank you to the Referees, all the teams that took part and to the supporters that cheered their teams on all day, you all played a huge part in making the day a massive success. There was a great atmosphere throughout the day at Stamullen FC’s HQ Teams: Fc Weiden, FC Nesslewang (Ger-© July 2019 The Meath Coaster 57 many), Booth Road Celtic, Frankfurt, Schalke Rovers (Dublin), Ringmahon Rangers (Cork), Laytown, TNF, Mosney, hosts Stamullen(Meath), Garda Dundalk, Monday Club(Louth). 12 teams in total competed for the title of Irish Bayerisch Cup 2019 Winners, the biggest gathering of the tournament, to date. The day started with so much expectation and hope as teams took to the pitch but after a full day of friendly-competitive football, it all whittled down to just two teams, Ringmahon Rangers of Cork and TNF of Meath. Both teams deserving of their place in the final, they went head to head but could not be separated, so penal- ties were required, with Ringmahon Rang- ers running out the Victor’s in the end. The Cork men also walked away with the player of the tournament award for Johnny Delaneys performances over the course of the day. Well done Ringma- hon and Johnny, worthy winners and a great bunch of lads too.It was then back to Whytes of Stamullen to celebrate to- gether and to analyse, and reenact, the days events.
