A question I have been asked recently by clients, is whether they should move their investments to a safer fund or stick with their current strategy. At any given time, you need to accept the value of your investment when reviewing it. What you wish it was worth is not as im-portant as taking a cold hard look at your circumstances for how you wish to strate-gize your investment going forward. There are some things I would suggest you consider before giving any sort of ad-vice: • How long do you have before you will most likely need to mature your investment?• How much of your money can you af-ford to lose?• How will you react if you lose a sig-nificant value of your fund? Will you cash in your investment or move to a safer option or remain committed to your fund strategy?• What portion of your fund/investment would you call significant? What has this got to do with Brexit? It has everything and nothing to do with it. I would not recommend that people try to time the market in terms of getting in and out of investments. Brexit may be the most immediate danger to the stability of the market, but it won’t be the only one over the coming years. So, if a person learns to see their investment as some-thing that will go through good and bad periods, they will improve their chances of making the right decisions at different times. One of the important things to note, is how long you plan to invest your funds. The longer you intend on investing your money the potentially greater the risk you can afford to take. The next thing is trying to work out how comfortable you will be with these fluctuations and this will help determine how much risk you can take. So, what will happen with Brexit? Well, nobody really knows. Perhaps it will be a “Hard Brexit”. Maybe there will be a ref-erendum or an election which will change the direction the UK is taking. What im-pact this has on investments is anybody’s guess. One would not expect that Brexit should lead to a worldwide recession like the crisis of 2007/08. Uí LoinsighCongratulations to Niamh Curtis on raising over €5,000 on her first ever Christmas Fair in The Lime Kiln and all these proceeds will go to Temple Street Hospital. The Staff also supported Drogheda Homeless Aid by donating all their tips from the 15th Dec. to the home-less. Well done to the Management & Staff for supporting the local community and local causes. Then we had Santa, Mrs. Claus & Elves taking time off their very busy schedule to drop into the Lime Kiln and add a Christ-mas Festive Cheer. The room had been beautifully decorated by the wonderful Julianstown & District Community Vol-unteers with Christmas Trees from Blacks Garden Centre and the Mornington Gos-pel Choir took centre stage with their beautiful singing of Christmas Carols. The MAN himself arrived in style in a Vintage Red Tractor (Thanks Stephen Hoey) and totally captivated the children and yes, children it was the REAL Santa … sure didn’t he have a REAL beard! The Mulled Wine and Mince Pies (Thanks Chef Robert) were yummy and if you haven’t tried them you can buy them in the Pantry! Thanks to the sponsors of the Raf-fle (Dunnes, Flogas, Glenside Hotel, Black’s Garden Centre, Pat’s Supermar-ket, Laytown, Briscoe’s Drogheda, Tesco, Funtasia, Value Centre Drogheda). A spe-cial word of thanks must go to The Lime Kiln for providing the venue and food and the Julianstown & District Community Association for providing the gifts from Santa for the children.Carol McGowan Mum, Aoibhín, Moya, Rosaleen & baby Tara (eldest to youngest) with Santa & Mrs. Claus© January 2019 The Meath Coaster43Julianstown Tidy Towns have had a very busy year picking up three prizes from Meath Co. Co. Pride of Place and also representating the county in Co-operation Ireland competition. The volunteers also re-planted all the planters with summer bedding and have now re-filled them with winter flowering plants. We have two lovely new beds at the top of the Laytown Road, and at the entrance to the commu-nity garden. All the vergers along the roadside were cleaned, hedges cut back and bed maintained throughout the vil-lage. They were also responsible for the Summer & Halloween Festivals as well as planting several hundred Bluebells in the woods and holding a Willow Work-shop for Heritage Week. They then fin-ished the year off with Santa in the Lime Kiln, new Christmas Lights and dressing up the trees all around the village. Hats off to the Volunteers they do the village proud! We would also like to thank Meath Co.Co., their staff, The Heritage Council of Ireland, Foras naGaeilge and Boyne Valley Tourism for all the grants which we received towardsr funding these great events. In 2019 Julianstown Tidy Towns are hoping to raise enough funds to totally re-vamp the flower beds going up through the village, add more colour and also attract more bees and butterflies. If you can help with this in any way either by donation or giving a hand the Tidy Towns Committee would love to hear from you. Traffic calming – Good News is that Meath Co. Co. consultants are hoping to present a plan for new traffic calming in January for the village. You will, of course realize that Traffic Calming is just putting a plaster on the problem and what we need is a Bypass for Julianstown and in this re-gard we would earnestly ask you to get on to your local Councillors and T.D.s to do this. If we don’t start demanding that a Bypass is urgently required it will never happen and eventually the whole East Coast will be gridlocked and your health will also suffer from the toxic fumes and noise! The Julianstown & District Com-munity Association are constantly in con-tact with Meath Co. Co., our Councillors and TDs on your behalf, but any help you can give will add to this daily increasing problem which is ruining our village life. Free IT classes – Would you like to learn how to use your iPhone, iPad, Smartphone or Tablet? Well, just come along St. Colm-cille’s GAA Centre on Wednesday 9th Jan-uary 2019 from 2-4pm. Is Life Seeming Difficult Yes, your head can be wrecked from Relationships, Family, Ill Health, Chronic Pain, and Anxiety, Panic, Stress, Lack of Confidence, Self Esteem. When life seems difficult you are unable to cope BECAUSE your Mind needs clearing. Left untreated, you Stress, Become Un-well, Suffer Anxiety, Panic, Insomnia, PTSD, Social Anxiety, Blood Pressure, Heart Issues to name a few. The impor-tance of yearly Mental Checks up’s is invaluable, life- saving and necessary. Many of my clients return for ‘top ups’ yearly, quoting ‘it’s not working anymore ‘ This is your SIGN, you need to get your mind rebooted. Just like a computer, your brain overloads, and needs a clear out emptying some files and delete the Virus you have created in your mind. Your car needs a service twice a year, to keep it running properly and keep it on the road, yet many do not get their Mind Serviced, indicating, their car is more important. You can replace a car, but YOU cannot be replaced. Statistics show 1 in 4 people need Coun-selling /Therapy. With 4 the average num-ber in each house, ONE of you needs my help. With more than half untreated, mil-lions suffer needlessly with unnecessary symptoms. Stigma, shame, embarrass-ment, play a role in the decision not to seek treatment, but giving up, rather than trying a new strategy, is extremely risky, and can cost you your health, happiness, and even your life. Here's what happens when mental illness is untreated. Worsening Problems A steady— often rapid—de-cline in health. Mental issues will not go away on its own. It gets worse and harder to treat. Unexplained Aches and Pains The body bears the burden. You might suffer headaches muscle pain or maybe chronic stress will lead to gastrointestinal distress. It's common to complain of aches and pains that have no physical source. Chronic Physical Health Problems Mental illness is not all in your head. It's the product of brain chemistry changes. Chronic stress is associated with risks of heart attacks, stroke, obesity, and prema-ture death. Stability Issues Difficulties coping with the demands of daily life or struggling to get out of bed because of depression, or experiencing communication difficulties the longer left untreated, your ability to work or effec-tively interact with others diminishes. Suicide Mental illness isn't lack of coping skills or personal failure. It's seriously, potentially life-threatening, illness. Left untreated, your problems become intolerable—cloud your judgment —that you see no way out and no hope. If you or someone close is struggling with any problems or issues consider seeking professional help from myself.
