From September 2019 the second European Payment Services Directive (PSD2 or Directive 2015/2366/EU) will result in changes in how you do your online banking. The Central Bank overview and the frequently asked questions section states: PSD2 aims to provide for the further de- velopment of a better-integrated internal market for electronic payments within the EU. It puts in place a comprehensive framework for payment services, with the goal of making payments within the EU more efficient and secure. It aims to provide greater protection for consumers by enhancing security measures for elec- tronic payments. It seeks to open up pay- ment markets to new entrants, with a view to encouraging more competition, greater choice and better prices for consumers. Increased security to access your bank ac- count online and make payments online. PSD2 builds on PSD by making it possible for the EU market in payment services to be opened up to new categories of payment services provider offering a range of new payment services to businesses and con- sumers. Visit www.centralbank.ie/regula- tion/psd2-overview for more informaton. Cautionary Advice As with all new services you should fully inform yourself about how it will affect you and to whom you entrust data. I’ve seen to many companies perform the ritu- al “Mea Cupla” after someone has hacked their servers and I’m in no rush to provide yet another door for potential hackers to gain information about me or grab my few euros. Perhaps, at this stage, I’m old school but it hasn’t failed me yet. How Will It Affect How I Access my Bank Account? From what I’ve read on Bank of Ireland they will be offering two ways to access your account online: • Two factor authentication (you enter your login details the bank sends a code to your mobile which you must then type in or you cannot access your ac- count.) This method has been around for a while on some online services. • New mobile app and new apps/methods from a desktop/laptop computer. • Customers who do not download the new app when it is available will need a BOI physical security key to continue to use our 365 online banking services. This is a small, handheld device that generates one-time passcodes to enable you to log in and authenticate payments. We will provide this to you on request. – Source - Bank of Ireland a guide to upcom- ing Changes www.bankofireland.com/the-sec- ond-payment-services-directive/ • SALES & LETTINGS AGENTS • ESTATE & FACILITIES MANAGEMENT AGENTS • ACQUISITION & DEVELOPMENT ADVISORS • CHARTERED VALUATION SURVEYORS Meath Office Bohan Hyland & Associates Bettystown Town Centre, Bettystown, Co. The month of getting ready for the hustle and bustle of school, college, and work without holidays in sight, but we’ve still got the last of sum- mer to enjoy, the Fleadh, the Debs parties and (hopefully!) the celebrations after the Leaving Cert results come out. The Leav- ing Cert has such an impact that a lot of adults still say they have recurring dreams about it. At the time it feels as though all of life hangs on what’s written on that sheet of paper. The current points system makes it seem more like that than ever. I have huge (enormous!) issues with a system that has teachers encouraging pupils to reach for their full potential, Colleges competing to have pupils’ applications, only for a lot of the pupils to have the door slammed shut on them. Not because they don’t make the grade, or be- cause they are not academi- cally strong enough but be- cause the entry points have been raised. There is something funda- mentally wrong with a sys- tem that allows a pupil to make a great success of the Leaving Certificate, only to feel like a failure by not getting into the course they want. And, yes, I have skin in the game this year, but I’m writing this in July, so I have no idea what’s ahead only that I have a young person here with a goal in mind, no discernible plan B, but the Oasis Childcare Centre Mornington Co. East Meath’s Leading Childcare Provider since 2005 course she wants requires the same points as the one for Actuarial Math which she doesn’t want to do, but would possibly stand a good chance of getting it, since it’s a less popular choice. It sure is a crazy system and I can sit here and gripe about it all day long but the one thing I don’t have is a solution, so kids it’s all we got! I can remind all the kids that when you leave school, there are lots of different routes you can take to whatever is your version of living your best life. Your job or your profession, is what you do to earn a living it is not who you are; (I tend to forget this when superficial me asks what someone works at so that I can mentally pigeon-hole them. I ‘m trying to be a better person though). I can tell all the kids that when you leave school there is freedom in not having someone tell you what to do. For instance, I started a sentence with ‘And’ in this article. And what? Who’s go- ing to stop me?! See what I mean? College is not the only route to having success in life. If you’re lucky enough to get to work at your pas- sion, you’ll feel like it’s not work. If that’s not possible, work so you can pursue your passion in your free time. Always leave space in your life for something that absorbs you and makes you lose track of time (but not in front of a screen!) something that makes you feel alive. The Leaving Cert results are just one starting point, not a definition of success or failure. §BG PAINTING & DECORATING InterIor & exterIor 25 YEARS EXPERIENCE REFERENCES AVAILABLE FREE CONSULTATIONS & ESTIMATES WALLPAPER ALSO AVAILABLE Contact Brian 086 7308449 Call Nicky - 041 9887128 087 7734344 A Local Business C o s m i c C l e a n www.cosmicclean.ie T&Cs & Minimum Charge applies MAJOR DISCOUNTS for Multiple Rooms Rug Collection & Delivery Service Available Professional Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning SPECIAL OFFER! Meath© August 2019 The Meath Coaster 36 Attention Business Owners… I f you own a percentage shareholding of any business, have you a plan in place in the event you pass away to ensure your es- tate or beneficiaries will get the full value of your shareholding? Can your company afford to compensate your estate/family or buy back this shareholding? Shareholder/Directorship Protection is an arrangement between company directors, which allows for a deceased’s directors share of a company to be bought by the remaining Directors. What are the advantages of Director- ship Protection? 1. In the event of a director dying, the re- maining directors participating in the agreement retain control and ownership of the company as they buy back the de- ceased director’s share. 2. The next of kin are bought out of the company by the remaining directors at market value and can therefore realise the cash value of the deceased’s share shortly after death. 3. The company/directors do not have to find the funds to cover the cost of the deceased shareholding. 4. It is a relatively straight forward share- holders plan. How does this work? There are two main parts to this arrange- ment: 1. The Legal Agreement between the di- rectors to regulate the position on death. 2. The Life Assurance on each director’s life to provide the funds to the remaining directors to make a payment to the de- ceased director’s next of kin. The solution outlined above can be achieved in one of two ways: →Personal Shareholder Protection - The shareholders enter into a personal agreement with each other to "buy out" a deceased shareholder's shares in the event of his/her death. To provide the funds to fulfil their personal obligation under the agreement, each shareholder personally effects life assurance cover which is payable to the surviving share- holders on his/her death. The proceeds of the life assurance policy are used to "buy out" the deceased's next of kin in line with the agreement. →Corporate Shareholder Protection - In this case the company enters into a put / call agreement with each of its share- holders to buy back shares from their personal representatives in the event of death. The company takes out a life as- surance policy on each shareholder, to provide funds to enable the company to fulfil its obligation under the agreement. In the event of death, the proceeds of the life assurance policy are payable to the company, to be used to buy back shares from the deceased's next of kin.
