We be-lieve that the most meaningful way to teach Maths to young children is through hands on, practical activities. To this end we have developed a range of station teaching activi-ties focusing on problem solving, developing mathematical thinking and encouraging the use of maths language. This month the children in Junior Infants participated in fun activities focusing on money and ordinal number, while the children in Senior Infants learned to com-bine numbers and practised adding using a number line on the iPads. §We have incorporated the use of our new ipads. Our pupils are engaging in a very positive way with this teaching methodology. © May 2018 The Meath Coaster7MEATH COUNTY COUNCIL PRIDE OF PLACE 2018Meath County Council 2018 Pride of Place competition is now open. Fleadh Cheoil 2018 (http://fleadhcheoil.ie/) will be taking over Drogheda from the 12th to 19th of Au-gust with events including music sessions, singing, concerts, parades, competitions, workshops, dancing, town walks, street busking, and youth events. 400,000 peo-ple will visit Drogheda during the festival and even if you’re not a trad music addict there will be plenty to enjoy. The festi-val has a tradition of visiting musicians staying in family homes during the week and this is where Stamullen comes in. If you’ve a house or even a room, available to rent out to the visitors, they’d love to hear from you at http://fleadhcheoil.ie/plan-your-visit/accommo-dation/. Good jobs news this month locally with the announce-ment that PCI Pharma are adding 50 jobs to their fa-cility in Stamullen. This comes after the recent opening of the new Circle K (formerly known as To-paz) service station at City North.Congratulations to the boys and girls from the village who made their confirmation on the 19th of April and good luck to the younger ones making their first commun-ion this month.Sadly Gormanston village’s long links with the Franciscan order have weakened with the news that weekly masses in the college’s chapel have now ceased due to declining vocations. LaVerna, the broth-er’s residence is also for sale.Meals on Wheels are appealing for vol-unteer drivers in the Stamullen and Julianstown areas to deliver meals to sen-ior citizens on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
