This is an ongoing service to the club, provided by Heartsafety Solutions. The service is designed to provide a coordinated response to a medical emergency on the golf course. All members are now provided with a small plastic card and whistle. The card contains a simple proce-dure, including the CPR procedure, as to what to do in the event of a medical emergency on the golf course. In addition, all visiting golfers will be provided with a hard paper version of the members’ card. The club has upgraded its defibrillator which is located in the clubhouse. The defibrillator is serviced periodically by Heartsafety Solutions, in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements and is monitored on the internet on a 24/7 basis to ensure its readiness when/if required in an emergency; The National Ambulance Service has also been informed of key information relating to Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club, in-cluding the EIRCODE, defibrillator loca-tion and contact details, rendezvous point for the ambulance, etc. In the event of an incident that may require a defibrillator within 1 km of the golf club, the emergen-cy caller will be notified of the location of the defibrillator at the golf club. Follow-ing the installation of the new AED unit, a group of club members and staff received training and were certified in CPR and in the use of the defibrillator to Irish Heart Foundation standards. The key personnel in the club involved in the project were committee member, Irene McManus, Club President, Tom Ryan and Eddie Huston, the Chairperson of the Board of Management. Although the new procedures have only very recently been launched, a significant number of mem-bers have expressed an interest in learning CPR and the defibrillator. The Captain of Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club, Bryan Collins, said ‘Many thanks to Heartsafety Solutions for intro-ducing us to the Golf Cardiac Response System. The feedback from our members has been very positive.’ § Donal Casey of Heartsafety Solutions presenting the Heart Safety Awareness Certificate to Bryan Collins & Rita O'Connor, Captains Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club. Special mention for Mairead Murphy who was 3rd in her category and 26th female home, in that heat! What an achievement!! Well done to everyone!!Race ReportAs I said I have a weather obsession these days and have been bemoaning the sodden state of us most evenings after training. So I found myself in the unusual position this morning of actually wanting it to be cooler, I opened the curtains and thought ‘this can’t be good’.Watching the Whatsapp posts advocating hydration, suncream and vaseline, I duly obeyed and it did nothing to allay the nerves. Why nervous I thought? Again Whatsapp provided the answer - ‘it’s the heat’. We’ve been running so long in the cold none of us were sure how we’d handle it.Day 2 - Meath track n field -Lauren n Holly Leinster juniorsDrogheda 10kThe 6th of May was the start of the Cilles AC race league and we kicked off with the Dorgheda 10k as our first race. An amazingly hot day but 34 Cilles athletes took it on, Mairead Murphy finished 3rd in her category and 26th female overall, a fabulous achievement in such challenging conditions.Full race reportA Glorious day, a hot day, that saw 34 of the Cilles AC beloved takes to the streets © June 2018 The Meath Coaster56We met at ‘The Boxer’ and the attached photos emerged, everyone resplendent in the glorious black n tangerine. After gathering everyone from the toilet dashes into Scotch Hall, we proceeded in formation to the line up. It was a sticky affair, with so many bare shoulders and suncream, how could it not be? We lined up behind the 60 min pacer, which was great because I had a feeling my brain would be fully occupied with the job of keeping itself from overheating rather than keeping an eye on the pace. Then we were off, this isn’t too bad I thought, maybe we’ll be ok in the heat. We emerged from the shade of the buildings into a sauna. I being of the ginger persuasion thought I might turn into a pile of ash there and then. It was hot from the start with very little respite from clouds, shade was hard to find in the opening kms. Ladies don’t sweat, so I was glowing profusely! The 60 min pacers were hammering along, then one shouts, ‘Claire we’re going too fast!’ I remember thinking - Oh thank god.5k came and went, going past Oldbridge was probably one of the hottest parts of the races for me. The water station appeared and not a moment too soon, one bottle for drinking one over the head, I did screech, joy or shock who knows. More joy was to follow, shade! and all the way up to the bottom of that bloody hill. Slowed down a bit ( wasn’t really going that fast to begin with!!) and began the climb, well thank Navan 6k - May 2018Meath relays May 2018 - 2© June 2018 The Meath Coaster57god for A&S because while my lungs were furiously complaining the legs just got on with it. The sneaky slope after the hill was a bugger, it was just hot and mean, can’t say anything more about it.Again more joy! Who couldn’t be happy being hosed down by a fireman in that heat, happy days. Downhill for who knows how long, it was glorious, felt like Ussain Bolt hoofing along. Into the park and was greeted by a couple of the Cilles faithful out cheering for the gang. One tiny incline, a bridge, could hear the crowd shouting, one more tiny hill, down the street towards the finish and yes you can stop running now, here’s a banana.Catching up with everyone afterwards was fabulous, red faces and heat related exclamations all round. You really are super people and a joy to be out running with so even though it was a hot n tough race, today will be firmly lodged in my memory as a great day.ING Luxembourg Ian Casey took on the ING Luxembourg on the 12th, showing super strength to come home in 4:25 over a hot n hilly course.
