Together with their teacher, Mr. Kavanagh, they proceeded to compose a song called Freedom. The students performed the song in a whole-school assembly, after which the teacher made a record of the performance and took it to the offices of LMFM. Sine-ad Brassil of LMFM subsequently made arrangements to have a reporter visit the school to interview the students and teach-er and record them performing the song. The students were extremely excited and they are very much looking forward to hearing themselves on air over the com-ing weeks."Green SchoolsWe are delighted to will be presented with our next Green Flag for water conserva-tion on the 21st May in the Helix, DCU. Much work has been done over the last year in making sure we had fulfilled all the requirements needed to receive the flag. Children learned what an important resource water is and why it is essential that we conserve it. Many thanks to Cathy Culhane and the Green School Committee for all their hard work. We had our Green Action Day where classes displayed their projects on Bio-diversity to the school, participated in an outdoor education activity, had a quiz on Biodiversity and much more. All the children participated in a big beach and school clean up, helping to keep our envi-ronment lovely. We attended a ceremony in City North Hotel where we received our 5th Green Flag and plan to have an of-ficial flag-raising ceremony on the morn-© June 2018 The Meath Coaster23ing of 15th June where some very special guests will attend!Cake SaleOur school cake sale was held in the school gym on Friday 9th May to raise funds for the school. It was a great success. Thanks to all the children and parents who baked all sorts of yummy treats. There wasn’t much left at the end of the day.MindfulnessWe did some mindfulness art in Fifth Class. We started by outlining our hands, then colouring it in with patterns and shapes we felt best represented us. The words behind the hand are positive words that describe us. It really made us think about how we view ourselves and hope-fully it helped our self-esteem too!Cara-Marie Thomas Fifth Class, SSNGAA FinalScoil an Spioraid Noaimh’s Boys GAA team will play St.Stephen’s of Navan in the final of the Corn Cois Farraige on June 6th in Pairc Tailteann, Navan. The team have gone unbeaten to the knock stages with some fine individual and team dis-plays. They have represented the school and themselves excellently at every train-ing session and game, always in a very sporting manner. It should be a very excit-ing final and the last time both teams met it was a draw match. Hope to see as much support there as possible and the very best of luck to a fine bunch of sporting boys. These are people who have been paying what is called a “reduced rate PRSI” in Social Welfare Classes B,C or D.To qualify all applicants must be signing-on the unemployment register with our local Intreo Office for a minimum of 12 months. The problem here is that many of the above categories of public servants cease to engage with the unemployment register once they come to what is usually a rather younger retirement age. But they should, not only to protect Wid-owed Persons Pension, but also to be in a position to avail of further work opportu-nities as now available through our local Community Employment Scheme. For some this may mean having to get back signing for the same Class of PRSI category as previously engaged in. For those who are already signing-on the op-portunity to earn an extra income to com-plement their pension is now available. If you think you are eligible please apply in writing by accessing the Jobs Ireland website and insert the following code as a search engine : #CES-2065934. A series of finals in sporting events, a range of award ceremonies including our Graduation Mass and of course the ongoing preparation for the Junior and Leaving Certificate exams have kept us all busy. A few activities worth a mention this month are the great win our under 14 Gaelic football team had in the Leinster post primary schoolgirls final beating Lo-reto St Stephen’s Green 4-6- to 1-7. The team were supported by their Colmcilles captain and player of the match pictured opposite. A proud day for all. This month we saw our annual intercul-tural event reach new levels with food stands, a fashion show, a dance spectacle, musical performances, including one from our past pupil, guest speaker and performer Farah Elle. It was a magnificent spectacle of colour and taste with over 25 nationali-ties represented and a carnival atmosphere prevailing in the school throughout the day.
