So from the the first of our camps, what a great week was had in July which was held in our grounds in Minn-istown. A great turn out with 76 children enrolled in this years opening camp back on July 16th/20th in East Meath. Looking on it seemed that everyone both boys & girls had an enjoyable week. Lets hope that all the experience that they gained will be put to good use when they return back to ac-tion with their team when all resumes at EMU.Tesco Every Little HelpsSince 2014, thanks to your help the gen-eral public, Tesco have supported over 11,000 community projects nationwide with €3million in donations including schools, animal shelters, sports groups, elderly care centres, health organisations and much more. The causes supported by the Tesco Community Fund comes in all shapes and sizes and some of these groups in Leinster are certainly a testament to that. From water safety groups, to dance groups to hospices, to local Soccer clubs your blue tokens are doing great work in the East of the country. Thank you to eve-ryone in our club & community who have been popping their blue tokens into the EMU canisters beside the checkouts, when shopping in Tesco Bettystown. We are one of the nominated community groups who will receive some funding from Tesco. The more we get filled into our canister, the bigger the amount we receive from Tesco. However like every other volun-tary group “Every Little Helps”.Cash For Clubs - Circle KCircle K (formerly Topaz) Cash for Clubs promotion has commenced for 2018. It af-fords Clubs the opportunity to be granted prize money based on collecting points through their loyalty scheme. For every €30 you spend with them 1 point will be allocated to your nominated Club. If you are already a Topaz/Circle K loyalty card holder simply log onto playorpark.ie & nominate East Meath United from the drop down menu (club no 3794). If you are not a card holder simply fill in the form at the petrol station and you will be issued with a loyalty tag. Every time you spend €30 our Club will be issued a point (2 for €60, etc) - it's as simple as that. Depending on us hitting our targets, our Club could re-ceive anything from €500 - €10,000. The scheme ends in mid August so please sign up it does not cost you anything. There are plenty of Circle K / Topaz garages in the area, including the new one opposite the City North Hotel. Please ask your fam-© August 2018 The Meath Coaster52ily and friends to sign up too. EMU thank you for your continued support in raising much needed funds to develop the future of Minnistown facilities.Academy Player of The MorningOur Academy is going from strength to strength every Saturday morning seeing no fewer than 45 kids turning up where both boys & girls attend from 9:30/10:30am. Ages from 5 to 7 who desire to partici-pate with other children without follow-ing the recreational team formation rules. The purpose of the Academy is simple at EMU “to provide recreational players who have aspirations of becoming a more accomplished player an avenue to test and enhance his or her skills whilst providing recreational players an opportunity to train with experienced coaches with the level of play with which they are comfortable with”. Something that we do in Minnis-town is to award a Player of the Morning (POTM) trophy along with New Comer to EMU medal at every Academy session. An important aspect of our club, soccer awards are not limited to a trophy that sits on a shelf and gathers dust. Nor are they limited to the top Academy players either. Soccer awards can give well-deserved recognition to a number of children who might not be the best but nonetheless try their best at every attendance. Awards range from expensive, fancy medals to less expensive, smaller items players can use to improve their game or even their daily lives. Our awards are given to the best overall child of the morning in both boy & girl, whether top offensive or de-fensive player, the player with the greatest number of goals or assists or for the best team spirit. Even players who are not tops but try hard can receive such accolade, however they can receive awards for most improved game, flawless attendance, best listener (very important) at practice and overall teamwork. Awards can also motivate all kids too. Giving these small awards out at every Academy session can keep kids showing up with high enthusi-asm and willingness to improve & learn within EMU academy, plus making mam-my & daddy happy to see their little one been recognised.U9’s Maynooth BlitzOur U9 Tornadoes & Sharks recently vis-ited Maynooth for a blitz in the blistering sunshine heatwave that we have had late-ly. Both teams starred in a four team blitz which included Maynooth Town, Ratoath Harps & St Ita’s in the twin sided game format. Both Tornadoes & Sharks with make shift teams as number were low with holidays etc, it was a chance to call up Senan, Daithi, Conor, Callum & Alex, all from the Under 8's to help us out & eve-ryone of them played their part over four great matches & playing against the older lads didn't phase them. The Tornadoes found it a little tough going in their first © August 2018 The Meath Coaster53match against Ratoath but regrouped & put in two excellent performances against two different Maynooth teams but only to run out of steam in our final match against the excellent St Ita’s. Results at this age group don’t count but its the experience & participation for both to play so many matches back to back, together in such a short space of time. New friendships were made both by kids and parents which is what these Blitz's is all about & both the Sharks & Tornadoes have a bond that is stronger than ever. The boys were delight-ed to receive their hard earned medals at the end of the blitz. Well done all & a big thank you to all the parents & supporters on the day. We welcomed Truagh Gaels from Monaghan and MacCumhaills from Donegal to Piltown for the weekend and what wonderful friendships and memories were made. Both our teams performed excellently reaching the cup quarterfi-nals having completed the group stages unbeaten. The boys team in fact beat the eventual champions in the group and the girls defeated the eventual runners up in the group so the teams can reflect posi-tively on their performances.
