< Previous© August 2018 The Meath Coaster40and in particular Brabazon for their pa-tience during the race and traffic disrup-tion and for coming out in their droves to cheer on the runners.Lastly and by no means least a huge thank you to the wonderful members of our club and their families. They came out and manned the corners and junctions keeping the runners safe, they dished out medals and bananas, took photos, made sand-wiches n tea, cleaned up afterwards – no job was too great or small.NSP B5 race reportTuesday the 17th of July was a busy day in the environs of Bettystown. Lists had been drawn up and jobs allocated, there was feverish activity around kitchen ta-bles making the 100’s of sandwiches to feed the hungry runners that night. Vol-unteers whizzing around the village do-ing setup, every time you went out a new batch of traffic cones had popped up like mushrooms. Preparations were coming together nicely.6pm arrived and a trickle of lycra clad runners started appearing. The finish gan-try popped up across from the Golf club, things are getting exciting. The final push before the start, bananas to the finish, put on the kettles, marshals in place. The walkers headed out 20 mins before the main pack, we had our first wheelchair competitor this year, congratulations to Micheal Baran on making B5 history. Checked the watch nearly 8, ran out with seconds to spare to watch the main start. It was glorious, a wall of runners belting down the Coast road being led by our cy-clist Ray Finlay. It was obvious the lead-ers were going to set a ferocious pace as they pulled away in the first couple of me-tres. The volume of runners was fantastic, it took a couple of minutes for everyone to pass by. We dashed back in to finish ‘the spread’.We hadn’t got much time to spare our winner Freddy Sittuk was back round in 26:07 followed closely by Simon Ryan on 26:21. There was a great atmosphere at the finish with the locals doing us proud and coming out to cheer the athletes. There’s some great pictures of Freddy high fiving everyone as he comes to the final strait. Our marshals had great reports of runners enjoying the event, plenty of laughing and chatting going on. Dave Reynolds one of the founders of Star of the Sea was full of praise for the run as he chatted to one, he was delighted to see so many taking up running . Regan would also like to thank one of our local shopkeeps who gave her a hi-vis vest, community spirit in action. We can’t say enough thank yous to the Eamon cracking up the ladiesSome interesting B5 spectators© August 2018 The Meath Coaster41drivers who stayed off the road for the run and those who showed great patience ei-ther using the diversions or waiting until runners had passed. Special mention for our own Bryan Barry who was 8th runner home in a fantastic time of 29:48, his first sub 30 on a five mile, well done Bryan! The fun didn’t stop with the run, back over to the golf club for refreshments. The tea n coffee was flying out, the place was thronged, the atmosphere was brilliant! The presentations started roughly around 9:30, our chairperson Graham Hyland paused from the 101 things he was doing during the day to announce the winners, Grahm Devitt from our main sponsor NSP presented the prizes. Fantatstic numbers stayed to cheer on our winners and their fellow club members. Eamon Faulkner presented the Peggy Faulkner memorial cup in honour of the late wife to the win-ning ladies team from Ballbrigan and Dis-trict AC. Eamon has been there since the first B5 and adds a very personal touch to proceedings. He hits the 90 mark this De-cember, an age he told me he puts down to eating porridge when he was young, it may be too late for me so. An early happy birthday from us Eamon. So that wraps up another B5 folks. We started four years ago on a very soggy and possibly one of the coldest July Sundays we’ve ever had with a gang of 255 run-ners. Our change to a Tuesday night the follow year only improved numbers and now in 2018 we had a massive turnout of 500 plus runners. We’ve had some amaz-ing feedback and lovely compliments from you all and we really appreciate that. The course record still stands at 25:19, set in 2015 by David Rooney of Raheny Shamrocks AC, the ladies is held by Sonia McCannon – 29:55, set in 2016. So enjoy your training between now and the next B5 where we hope to see you all again and perhaps a few will change those records.Bigi linn ag rith from all at Cilles ACPS all the results can be found on htt-ps://www.myrunresults.com/events/bettystown_b-5/2670/results §B5 Winner Freddy SittukHappy man from BallbrigganSimon Ryan romping home in 2nd© August 2018 The Meath Coaster42Castle Hill Riding Club The members of Castlehill RC have recently been excelling themselves in a variety of disciplines at shows across the North East Region. The Association of Irish Riding Clubs recently hosted the North East Regional Qualifier for the National Dressage Championships at the National Horse Sport Arena in Blanchard-stown, where two Castlehill members travelled to compete in blisteringly hot conditions. Well done to Marie Delaney Moore and her horse Susie who picked up great scores Anita McNamara Doyle and RubyDiane Ford McCoy and Chezin the Advanced Primary class, but were unlucky to be out of the placings. Club © August 2018 The Meath Coaster43chair Lindsey ilona Brady and her horse Trigger Joe performed brilliantly against stiff competition to win the Advanced In-termediate class, and secure the top spot before the championships in August. Su-perb result for this great combination! Border Counties RC hosted a One Day Event at Cloncaw EC in Co. Monaghan recently, where club members Gary Mo-nahan, Marie Delaney Moore and Anita McNamara Doyle travelled to compete. Gary and his lovely horse Olaf had a fan-tastic day, with a clear XC round placing them 5th overall in the Intermediate com-petition. Marie and Anita were competing at their first ODE, and both girls and their horses performed brilliantly! Marie had an excellent XC round, just picking up a few time faults along the way, while Anita had an excellent Dressage score, with a few jumping penalties during the day. The trio also placed third in the team compe-tition, showing what incredible talent we have in the club at present. All three members have now qualified for the TRI Equestrian National Eventing Championships in Lisgarvan House, Car-low, in September. Well done to our members that have also been competing re-cently at unaffiliated competitions at Castlehill EC. And now LAYTOWN UTD FC PLAY-ERS and COACHES have been trans-formed into local celebrities with their very own stickers in the special commem-orative album. The initiative allows sports fans to join in the fun and be part of the club’s history by owning a copy of the Sticker collection. A luxury reserved, until very recently, for the professional football teams. This ex-citing project has been made a reality by the company Cromogal, a company dedi-cated to the development of personalised albums for clubs, sports organisations and associations throughout Spain and Eu-rope. For several months Laytown United FC and Cromogal have worked hand in hand to compile the sticker album of the 2018 season. The collection is composed of full col-our stickers where all the members of the Club are featured. The fact that we are the first club in Ireland to introduce an album of this kind means it has generated a huge amount of attention, and story had been picked up by the press both on a local and national level. It’s a great fun day for all the family so keep an eye out on our facebook page for updates about exact times and we hope to see you all there. Over 35’s newsWhile everyone from the club were on their summer break, Stamullen FC’s Pensiors were on International Duty this summer. They travelled to the picturesque town of Weiden in Munich Germany, to compete in the Irish Bayerich Cup for the second year running. Last years event was hosted by Stamullen FC in Gormanston College FC Weiden Ost, were this year’s hosts, and from the moment the lads arrived in Munich they were given the VIP treat-ment by everyone associated with the club. FC Weiden arranged everything, from the lads accommodation in a cabin in the middle of a Forest (not as romantic as it sounds) to the fantastic Tournament & After Party, complete with Big Screen TV, for the World Cup games and the towns annual Bürgerfest festival.Nothing was left to chance, even Weiden’s Town Mayor grabbed a photo opportunity with the Pensioners.Stamullen took their place in the com-petition alongside, defending champions Shalke Rovers (Baldoyle), COLGA FC (Galway), FC Weiden Ost and FC Nes-selwang, both of whom were competing in Gormanston last year, and 5 other Bay-ern teams, all hoping to lift the Trophy.Stamullens old timers, had the honour of Club Chairman, Dave Reddin travelling and togging out for them, as he took to the pitch to dazzle with some fine foot-work that baffled the opposition, and baffled some of his own teammates too. The rest of the Pensioners were made up of Adrian Phelan, Con O’Brien, Eamonn © August 2018 The Meath Coaster49Murphy, Jason McGinn, Marcus Mallon, Mel Browne, Stephen O’Brien, Tom Mc-Manus and Trevor Despard, all of whom did the Club proud both on and off the pitch and were great Ambassador’s for Stamullen. There is even talk of twinning the towns of Weiden and Stamullen.Stamullen didn’t make it out of a very tough group, but to be honest, it was more about forging new friendships through a common interest of playing football, even if our bodies have different ideas. Based on this criteria, it was a total success. Well done to everyone involved, it was a great experience with memories that will last forever, and friendships that will last even longer.A huge thank you to Eamonn Rooney and all at FC Weiden Ost for an absolutely great tournament and for looking after the lads so well. In 2019 the Irish Bay-risch Cup is coming home, it returns with Stamullen FC hosting the competition in Gormanston College. It will be a tall order to match 2018, but one I am sure Stamullen will rise to.
