Stephen McKeeNew Secondary School For East MeathA new 600-pupil post-primary school is to be established in the East Meath area and it is hoped to have the new school open by September 2019. The 4 Proposed Patrons, one of which will run and guide its ethos, are Louth & Meath Education & Training Board, Scoil Sinead, Loreto Col-lege and Educate Together. All are mixed schools. A decision on the location of the new school and chosen Patron is expected soon. Civic Space At Entrance To Bettystown BeachWe have been given an update on the architectural competition for the devel-opment of a seafront building and civic space at Seaview Terrace, Bettystown. The proposed development will include a lifeguard tower, a beach warden office, a café, showers and changing area, pub-lic toilets, pedestrian-friendly civic space and traffic management measures. A pre-liminary design is due to be presented to us at our next meeting.Road Safety In Housing Es-tatesAny housing estate in the area that has been taken in charge can apply to Meath County Council to have special 30 km/hr speed limit signage put in place and the Council will also consider any request for speed ramps subject to funding. If any Residents Associations or concerned residents are interested, please get in touch with me and I will liaise with the Council on your behalf.New Defibrillator At Deepforde A new defibrillator will shortly be in-stalled at the entrance to Deepforde on the Dublin Road by the East Meath Cardiac First Responders. I am pleased to have part-funded the purchase of this through my Discretionary Funding Allowance working alongside the Residents Associa-tion of Deepforde. It is an important piece of equipment which potentially could save lives in the future. Road Safety Issues In DonacarneyAs residents know, there are serious road safety issues in Donacarney and these are being brought into sharper focus and made worse with work starting on new housing developments in the area. I recently met with the Road Safety Officer for County Meath, Michael Finnegan to discuss these issues and we are working with the Coun-cil Executive to try and resolve them. The priority issues I am working on are as fol-lows:• Road safety at Donacarney National School. The Coun-cil have contacted the School Board of Management to work together to find solutions to the serious traffic and road safety issues at the school. This follows a motion I tabled at the Coun-cil meeting.• Footpaths are urgently needed on the Church Road, Donacarney where new development is taking place. Though footpaths are part of planning condi-tions on developments in that area, they need to be urgently put in place before an accident occurs.• Need for traffic-calming measures on the Garra Road from Donacarney down to Coney Hall, Mornington.Indaver Community Grants Scheme & St.Colmcille’s Gaa ClubI am pleased that St.Colmcille’s GAA Club will receive €7,500 this year under the Indaver Community Grants Scheme for improvement works at Seafield, Laytown, and this money will help the Club develop as numbers grow. This funding comes as an addition to pre-vious significant funding for the Club un-der the Scheme over the last few years and I am delighted to have always supported St.Colmcille’s with those applications. I also welcome the news that planning permission has been granted by Meath County Council for the construction of much-needed new dressing rooms and a meeting room at Seafield. Well done to those involved in progress-ing this and to all clubs in the community who supported this project. As a parent with small children, it is vital that we con-tinue to do all we can to improve facilities and sporting infrastructure in the area for our youth.
