< PreviousJanuary 2017 The Meath Coaster ©20Coláiste na hInseChristmas in the ColáisteChristmas in the Coláiste was held again, with students past and present attending to perform popular festive songs in aid of St. Vincent de Paul. There were numerous highlights on the night, includ-ing a memorable duet with Daniel Burke and Inion McCarrick!CNI GolfHard luck to the CNI golf team who nar-rowly missed out on qualifying from their group of the Leinster Inter Schools League Match Play 2016. They beat Trim and Kells and were just beaten by Ashbourne on the second tie hole. Well done to Eoghan Power, Aedan Prone, Philip Du Mou-lin, Sean O' Byrne and Alex Maguire. Boys’ CispheilThe Boys’ Under 19 reached the league final, but were defeated by Patrician High School, Carrickmacross. It has been a hugely successful season for the team despite the final disappointment, and the team now have the opportunity to partici-pate in the All-Ireland series for the first time, a fantastic achievement and reward for the dedication of the team.Girls’ CispheilWell done to our U19 girls’ basketball team who made it to the semi-final of our competition this year. Unfortunately they lost to a skilful Marist side. The girls put up a great fight but unfortunately it wasn't to be their year. The team has gone from strength to strength this year and the fu-ture looks bright for girls’ basketball in Coláiste na hInse. College Awareness WeekDaltai in the Coláiste celebrated College Awareness week in November. We had the official launch of our new Careers Li-brary! Students attended a range of events including a trip to Naas Racecourse to learn about Careers in Equine and racing. Our teachers got involved too by high-lighting their own Career Pathways. The week was a great success and highlighted the importance of higher education and lifelong learning. The Coláiste welcomed Psychologist Ed-die Murphy, as seen on Operation Trans-formation, to speak to our parents. Eddie spoke about how to communicate and support your teenagers. It was a fantastic opportunity for parents to get together and share their experiences. A big thank you to the Parent's Association for their help on the night.CNI Collect Christmas Hampers for St Vincent de PaulColáiste na hInse wish to thank students and parents for their support of the an-nual Christmas Hamper for St. Vincent de Paul. Once again, there was huge support with a large number of hampers now col-lected for distribution in the local area.History Tour of DroghedaThe Idirbliain students enjoyed a tour of Philip du Moulin representing CNI Golf teamJanuary 2017 The Meath Coaster ©21Drogheda in the run-up to Christmas. They visited Millmount Museum, including a tour of the tower and the weaponry on dis-play. They were also guided on a walking tour by My Streets Ireland, a social enter-prise group in Drogheda. The walking tour was particularly enjoyable, with students learning much about the history that sur-rounds them in the historic town.SoccerThe Boys’ Under 15 and Under 17 team have enjoyed a successful month in their league campaigns, with both teams reach-ing the knock-out stages of the competi-tions. The Under 15 team defeated both Dunshaughlin and Ratoath comprehen-sively, whilst the Under 17 team complet-ed an impressive group campaign with a 3-0 victory against Dunshaughlin. Both teams are now awaiting confirmation of their opposition in the final stages after Christmas. §Drogheda Institute of Further Education National College of Art and Design Dundalk Institute of Technology Erasmus Programme SOCIAL WORK STAND Dublin Institute of Technology Grants and Finance Stand Medical Stand Louth & East Meath T.D. Find all the details on www.cookitkids.comCongratulations to the residents of Moun-tain View who claimed first place for Housing Estate (medium) at the 2016 Pride of Place awards. Their tireless work on maintaining their estate makes our vil-lage a more beautiful place and is inspir-ing to behold. A well-deserved award!Well done to everybody (Tidy Towns, lo-cal businesses etc.) who was involved in upgrading the Christmas lights and festive display at the water pump in the village – they looked great. The coming of Santa and friends was a festive highlight, as always.Hope for the Homeless would like to thank everybody who gave so generous-ly to their Christmas appeal. They raised enough in the butcher’s account to give turkey and ham meals to 200 people on the 19th of December at the GPO and as-sembled a rucksack for each of them filled with useful supplies and treats. They couldn’t have done this without the gener-osity and hard work of many in our com-munity, of all ages. They’re continuing their Monday nights at the GPO this year and if you’d like to help in any way you can contact them via www.facebook.com/HopeforhomelessDublin.On a similar note, well done to the young parishioner who organised a collection of toiletries for Drogheda Homeless Aid via Stamullen and Julianstown churches this December. This was a follow-up to their innovative hot-water-bottle collection last year. Great to see people making a differ-ence in the world.Got Stamullen news? These results and statistics were posted in both the Irish Times and Irish Independent on 6th December 2016 and it is the second year in a row the school has been ranked first in Co Louth, and in East Meath. This is the third time in recent years Drogheda Grammar has topped this list and it is a source of pride and encouragement for all involved with the school. The school also appeared 12th in the table for most im-proved schools in the country when com-paring statistics from 2010 to 2016. We are delighted again as this highlights the academic focus and efforts of our stu-dents and staff and our drive for them all to be the best they can be. We also recog-nise this is but one element of what makes a school successful and are always keen to improve in every area of school life. Re-sults and tables like this are pleasing but highlight only one area of what makes our school unique and does not recognise the contribution each staff member and stu-dent makes in the other equally important areas of school life such as our extra-cur-ricular programme, the positive learning atmosphere and focus on respect and de-cency amongst the whole school commu-nity. Well done to all students, staff and families involved. Christmas Carol ServiceMany thanks to all who performed , at-tended and supported the school’s Christ-mas Carol service recently. Held in the Presbyterian Church on Colpe road the audience were treated to performances from the school choir, the ukulele ensem-ble, soloists , duets and the school Orches-tra. Well done to all involved and a par-ticular thanks to Ms Mullins who ensured the music was of such a high standard. RugbyCongratulations to the Senior Rugby team who are through to the next round of the McMullen Shield after a hard fought win 17-15 over St Joseph’s recently. The Jun-iors received a bye into the next round and await their next opponents in the new year. AIB Build a BankThe school bank has been launched re-cently as a group of TY students hone their business skills by developing their own bank. As part of the AIB build a bank challenge the team have come up with the Wellbeing bank which not only looks af-ter your money but your health and well-being too. HockeyThe Junior girls celebrated a 3-0 victory over Clontarf recently as their league campaign continues. Well done girls.
