< PreviousFebruary 2017 The Meath Coaster ©20Coláiste na hInseU19 Boys Basketball Team. Our U19 squad's season ended with them bowing out from the All-Ire-land Preliminary round, played in Cas-tledermot last Friday, the 13th of January. On the day things just didn't seem to go our way and we couldn't quite close the small gap. We were beaten by a well set up Baldoyle team who had already won their first game which meant they were through to the next round of the playoffs. Our second game of the day didn't mat-ter in the sense of qualifying so it was a good chance to give the young panel an experience of the big day. It was a very enjoyable day out, Colaiste Lorcain were excellent hosts and it will stand to us hav-ing that experience next year.It has been a fantastic year for the lads, they have improved so much under the guidance of their coach Ciaran and they have given their absolute best, making themselves available for training when-ever called. They have been such a pleas-ure to work with and we look forward to another great year next year, hopefully progressing on to further stages.College Awareness Week WinnersComhghairdeas to Rang Strachan and Rang Grimes who came second place in the College Awareness week multimedia competition. Their mannequin challenge to mark the opening of our Careers li-brary was awarded as it was ‘humorous and fully captured a ‘still-life’ of college research.’ The dáltai have won a college experience day in Maynooth University and cannot wait to attend!HandballCongratulations to the CNI 2nd and 3rd Year handballers who reached the semi-finals of the recent GAA school blitz! Given that most of the lads are beginners to the sport, this was a fantastic achievement. Handball is growing in CNI, with the ad-dition of two full size one-wall walls this year, and with great enthusiasm and skill shown by all at the Blitz, the future of the sport is bright.Rang Conroy Involved in Beach Clean-upHandball Squad at a recent Blitz CompetitionUnder 19 Basketball Team at the All-Ireland Series 2017February 2017 The Meath Coaster ©21Third Year group Rang Conroy have been involved in tidying up the beach in recent weeks. Under 17 Soccer Team Reach League DeciderThe Boys’ Under 17 soccer team clinched their place in the North-East Leinster fi-nal with a gritty 1-0 win against St. Ol-iver’s, Drogheda. Having already beaten Boyne C.S. from Trim and Dunshaughlin in December, the team shaded much of the match before finally taking the lead early in the second half. Thereafter, their Drogheda counterparts exerted significant pressure in the closing stage. Nonethe-less, the Coláiste remained dangerous on the counter-attack and held on for a place in the final against de la Salle, Dundalk on Tuesday, January 31st. The final has an 11am kickoff in Muirhevnamór, Dundalk.Meanwhile, the Under 15 team will be playing their league semi-final next week also against de la Salle, Dundalk. RugbyThe First and Second Year Boys’ Rugby team enjoyed a successful blitz last week as they comprehensively beat rivals de la Salle 33-0, and Bush Post-Primary by a scoreline of 25-0. The team continue to make huge strides forward and are show-ing tremendous potential. §Rang Conroy Cleaning Beach in JanuaryUnder 17 Boys’ Socce r Team Reach League Final after defeating St. Oliver’sSenior Footballers Qualify for North Meath FinalCongratulations to the Senior Gaelic Footballers who have qualified for the North Meath Fi-nal in Abbotstown at 12PM this Thursday. The public reacted with both surprise and dis-gust at the idea of placenta capsules and questioned why would anyone choose to do such a thing. The Kardashians are just a few of the many celebrities who have openly spoken about their decision to con-sume their placenta after giving birth. But placenta consumption - called “pla-centophagy” - is not just a fad among the rich and famous, it is a concept that has been around for thousands of years. Tradi-tional Chinese Medicine (TCM) considers the placenta to be a powerful medicine, with placenta being featured in TCM Ma-teria Medica as early as 1578.In more recent times placentophagy has become a hygienic, safe and professional practice thanks to qualified placenta spe-cialists. Placenta specialists are trained in working with blood borne pathogens, and certified in HACCP food safety manage-ment and food preparation hygiene.Even if you now know it to be safe, I’m sure you are wondering what the possible benefits could be. Women who consume their placenta report considerably higher energy levels, better mood, increased milk supply, less post-natal depression and faster healing with reduced post-birth blood loss. They also report clearer skin with healthier hair and nails. What is the reason behind these positive benefits? The placenta is full of post-birth hormones including oxytocin and endor-phins, which help post-natal depression, and prolactin which increases milk supply for successful breastfeeding. The placenta is also rich in iron, vitamins and minerals, giving new mothers a nutritional boost af-ter such a big and life-changing event as having a baby. All this makes placenta the ideal tonic for the post partum period.Placenta capsules are easy to take, can be stored for a long period of time and most importantly, they do not look or taste like placenta. Other remedies that can be made from one placenta include a tincture, an essence, a cream and a balm. A sample tincture can also be sent to a licensed homeopath to be tu rned into a homeopathic remedy..Due to its rise in popularity over the last couple of years, maternity hospitals are now familiar with the practice of placenta encapsulation. Many clients are actually referred to me by midwives. When consider the amount of chemicals, medicines and artificial ingredients we put into our bodies these days, consuming your placenta is a natural and nutritious alterna-tive to give new mothers that little lift they need to get them through those first few weeks with a newborn.
