Uí Loinsigh Continued over.... Spring is nature’s way of saying ‘Let’s party’ “ Come with me into the woods. Where spring is advancing, as it does, no mat- ter what, not being singular or particular, but one of the forever gifts, and certainly visible.” By Mary Oliver If you should happen to wander into the woods in Julianstown you will see plenty of signs that Spring has arrived. These are Snowdrops, Lesser Celandine, Prim- roses, and Bluebells and be mindful that you must take your time to look for these rather shy beautiful wildflowers. On Tuesday, March 17 th we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day (Lá le Pádraig), but did you know - When St Patrick was on his way from Down to Tara to the palace of the High King he landed at the mouth of the Delvin which flows into the sea at Gormanston. He left his boats at the mouth of the river and he himself contin- ued his journey up along the banks. He built a church in the valley. He remained there some time and then set out for Tara again. This time he sent his boats by sea and he himself went by land along the sea coast. In the woods of Mosney he met Be- nignus son of Dicho. Benignus fell down at the Saint’s feet and begged him to take him with him. St Patrick baptized him in a well beside the railway that is now known as St Patrick’s well. Ben Head between Laytown and Gormanston was called after St. Benignus. (extract Dúchas.ie – White- cross School) When St. Patrick was crossing the Rive Nanny, he saw some fishermen fishing and he asked them for some fish. They told him they had none, he cursed them and told them they would never have any, with the result that no salmon ever came up the mouth of the River Nanny.Julianstown Tidy Towns are delighted that three Tran- sition Year Students will be helping with the upkeep of Julianstown Village Garden on Saturday mornings.
