< Previous© January 2020 The Meath Coaster 60 C2 General Stamullen F.C. Club news H appy new year to all our players, par- ents, coaches, committee and sup- porters. we are currently enjoying a well deserved break over the Christmas period but will be glad to get back training and playing when the leagues come back mid Jan, hopefully the weather stays fine. Glo football Our younger teams enjoyed glo football for their Christmas parties. It was our first time running it in the Club and judging by the amount of fun everyone had, it won't be the last. The kids had an absolute ball. Thanks to the FAI for supplying the equipment. Gormanston, 24 th May 2016, as AFC Stamullen, they had secured a league title with a 4-1 victory over Chanel SSC with a game to spare. There were major movements that summer. Our seniors became affili- ated with the AUL in July, after 5 years being in the AFL. But an even bigger move was when they merged with the underage teams to be part of our community as one club. Fast forward another 3 years and 5 months to Saturday 7 th December 2019. This will be another date etched into the history books of Stamullen FC. The club hosted the Republic of Ireland Cerebral Palsy team on a lovely after- noon in Gormanston. Both teams walked out with their mascots who are the club’s players of our U8 girls and boys teams. When the pennants were exchanged by Seniors Review In a blink of an eye – our seniors have come a long way. Sunday 5 th September 2011. Their first competitive match, as Stamullen Harps FC, was at home to JK Celtic with a 2-0 win. Fast forward to a Tuesday evening in © January 2020 The Meath Coaster 61 both skippers the main showcase, that was sponsored by Stitch it Brand it on the day, could begin. The level of football, pace and intensity of the game was a joy to watch for all specta- tors. The Irish team took the lead, but our seniors didn’t lose their heads as they re- sponded well and went into the break 2-1 ahead. With an array of changes, the level of foot- ball didn’t drop and our seniors increased their lead to 3-1. Both keepers on the day matched the high level of football played. The Irish team did get one back with three minutes to go. This set the match up for a cagey last few minutes. Our seniors held on for the 3-2 win in the end. Both teams, the referee Kevin Cassin, AUL President Tony Martin, Striker On- line reporter Dermot Clarke , Independ- ent Local Representative Lisa Mellor and Stamullen Chairperson Gráinne Carmody all went back to our main sponsor: Whytes of Stamullen where they were treated to a lovely meal. Club captain Trevor Dun- phy said a few words on how far the sen- iors have come and thanked everyone that © January 2020 The Meath Coaster 62 helped make this occasion memorable. Republic of Ireland CP manager and Stamullen Director of Football Seán Moore also said a few kind words expressing his thanks for hosting his team and Chairper- son Gráinne Carmody also thanked every- one involved in this historic day. The Irish CP kitman, Bobby Moore, then said a few words thanking our club for the lovely hospitality and also presented the club with an Irish jersey to get framed. It was a fantastic and momentous occasion for all involved. With Stamullen FC going strong halfway through our 9 th season, we are definitely a young club going places. With a full functioning academy, 16 un- derage teams, 1 senior team and 1 over 35s team, our club is operating extremely well on all levels on the pitch. There is just one thing left for our young club to accomplish and that is to find a home where we can build our own clubhouse, have © January 2020 The Meath Coaster 63 our own pitches and further develop football for our future stars in the community. We are in- debted to all the team for their hard work and supporting our efforts in this regard Coaching Conference 2020 Our second annual conference – organ- ised by GPO Conor Brennan takes place on the weekend of 18 th January. We will have a super half day of talks and demon- A playing year started on 27 January, when our senior men’s team went into league action and the Meath Minor girls had a challenge match in Piltown. We were very proud to have these girls as the first team to play in Piltown in 2019. And what a lucky omen we proved to be as the Congrats to all our players who recently played with the Meath u14 ladies team© January 2020 The Meath Coaster 68 team went on to claim Leinster Champi- onship honours beating Kildare in the fi- nal. A huge well done to Caoimhe and Alannah who played such an important role in that final. Not to be outdone the Meath U16 girls went a step further as well, also claiming a Leinster title and go- ing all the way to the All-Ireland final be- fore losing out to an outstanding Galway team. Ellie and Ella were to the fore in that success with Ellie going on to win the “Players Player of the Year “award. As if that wasn’t enough Megan became an U14 Leinster Champion too. We welcomed all the County girls back to the Shane Black Property Advisers Academy later in the summer where they met with and talked to the young and upcoming players Our boys county players also shone throughout the year – there were U15 All Ireland honours and U16 Gerry Reilly suc- cesses for our large number of panellists and at minor level Sean, Endy and David all started the Leinster Championship se- ries in what was a great honour for the club. Of course the Meath men’s team also had a year to remember, mak- ing real progress achieving promo- tion to Division1 of the NFL, reach- ing the Leinster Final and Super 8s and once again the Club were to the forefront of that. We were all very proud on Leinster Final day when Meath took on the all- Conquering Dublin team where we were in fact the most represented club on the starting squads across both teams. What a wonderful honour and statistic that is in a year where Dublin made history as pos- sibly the greatest team of all time Back to club action and it was another year where silverware and finals came to Piltown at regular intervals. In a wonder- ful statistic finals were reached at every age group but we are very proud of all our players irrespective of results. A young players development is all that matters ultimately and silverware will follow that. The un- doubted high- light of the year was the return of the Delaney Cup (Minor Foot- ball Champi- onship) to its spiritual home following a ti- tanic struggle v Summerhill on County Fi- nal day. An- other memory Congrats to Ellie and Ella on their U16 medal presentation success Congrats Ellie on your u16 Meath Players Player of the Year award. Ellie received her award from All Star Monica McGuirk© January 2020 The Meath Coaster 69 being a 3 in a row U14 league titles and “back to back” u15 trophies. Our ladies teams were not to be outdone with U12 and U13 Division 1 finals a real highlight and proof of continued development and success of all our teams. At adult level it was probably a year to for- get for our men’s and ladies teams. Both squads fell below their own very high standards but you can be sure that having failed to live up to their own expectations that no stone will be left unturned in 2020 and we are already very excited for what the future will hold Our hurlers play with St Patricks under the “saints” banner and what a year they had reaching U12 and u13 semi finals be- ing a particular highlight. These teams are looking forward already to Feile na nGael in the summer which should be a very en- joyable experience for all as our hurling offering continues to grow and grow One year may be over but another is about to start! We look forward to recording it every step of the way with you here Lotto Our club lotto is the lifeblood of the club and funds our day to day running costs. For just €2 a week or €100 a year you can have the chance to take part in what is surely the most won lotto in the coun- try with 3 winners already in 2019. Lotto tickets are available from our three main outlets – Southgate Shopping Centre (Fridays), Tesco Bettystown (Saturdays) and the Shane Black Property Advisers Academy on Sundays. The lotto can be played online at www.cilles.com or in the clubhouse our local shops and hostelries. All funds raised go towards our day to day running costs. As a New Year starts why not sign up for the annual lotto member- ship and play your part in supporting the club? Membership Now Due Our membership for 2020 is now due. Where possible we would encourage pay- ment online via our website www.cilles. com We would be grateful if everyone could arrange for payment as soon as pos- sible as club costs at the start of the year can be quite high §Next >
