BTT volunteers are already planning the projects for 2019, some projects we hope to commence in the coming weeks, while others will start later in the year, when the weather conditions permit. There are a number of projects on the list already, including, the street scape enhancement, Triton Road roundabout works, clearing overgrowth at the brook on the Coast Road, painting, planting, va-cant site clearance, pollinator site creation and much more. If you are involved in a local Residents As-sociation and would like some assistance with a Spring clean up, we will gladly as-sist you and arrange pickers, gloves and bags and we will also arrange for the col-lection and disposal of the bagged litter. If you would like to get involved in any of these projects or you only want to assist occasionally, then why not message us on our Facebook page or meet us on a Satur-day morning at 10.00 a.m., when we are out and about in the village. . §Laytown Tidy TownsThere was a great turn out for the switching on of the Christmas lights on Saturday 8th December. Adults and children alike sang a variety of Christmas Carols. The tree, as you can see, looks fabulous. Sincere thanks to John Lynch and his team from Elite Environmental for erecting the tree and putting the lights on it!planting some trees on the approach road and constructing a raised bed on the roadside. We need also to look at our existing planters to see if they need weeding and replanting. We take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and healthy New Year! After the fun at the tree everyone adjourned to Gilna’s Cottage Inn for a mulled wine reception, the children all armed with selection boxes and the adults warming up with the mulled wine! Thanks to Gilna’s for hosting this most enjoyable evening! We made our first effort at cleaning up the flowerbed at the railway sidings. The work made a small difference.....as we said it is going to take time to restore the bed to it’s former glory but we intend to keep at it until this happens! The plan is to weed out all the scutch grass, any other weeds and to remove any plants which are past their best! We hope to replant in the springtime and to cover the bed with pebbles so as to slow down the growth of new weeds! We would be extraordinarily grateful for any help we can get, so if you would like to make your New Year’s Resolution to get involved in a local project please feel free to join us!Other projects in the pipeline include NEW CITROËN BERLINGO VAN AT JACK DORAN MOTORSTEST DRIVE A WINNERJACK DORAN MOTORS | CALL US NOW ON (041) 213 2009 UNIT 4, DONORE INDUSTRIAL ESTATE, DROGHEDA, CO. A huge thank you has to go to all volunteers in-volved, it really is down to you. We’ve seen the end of 2018 and entering into a new year. New Year’s resolutions broken al-ready or haven’t begun? Which-ever, I hope 2019 is a good one for us all. Be good to each other and to yourselvesFull Council 3rd Dec, ‘18At both full council and Environment SPC, we were given a presentation on the climate Action Strategy and Climate Ac-tion Regional Office. Ireland, as we stand today, is 2nd from the bottom – not a good place. It is going to cost us approx €600m in fines because we will not reach 2020 targets and reaching 2030 and 2050 targets look doubtful too. Those most vulnerable will not have had any input into the de-struction so it’s up to us now to do our bit to help mitigate damage. Every small bit helps. Be conscious of your carbon foot-print, let 2019 be the start of making small changes. Less packaging when shopping is just one small change we can all make.Part 8 planning for Boyneside Trail is expected early new yearArchitectural design for beach civic build-ing is to be brought before our January Municipal District meeting. Disappoint-ing that we’ve had to wait so long for this, but how and ever, we expect to get to see it this month.Municipal District 13th Dec, ‘18The tender for consultants for the agreed footpath from Whitefields to Realt Na Mara NS, Donacarney, is now on Etenders – closing date for submis-sions is mid January, 2019. This is the second tender process as there were no tenders received from the first process.Tender submissions for, bad-ly needed, drainage works on the Mosney Road have been received and are now being processedA motion calling on Transport section of Meath Co Council to carry out a full ap-praisal of a Julianstown Bypass and to submit it to the Dept of Transport as a matter of urgency was tabled by Cllr To-lan and seconded by myself. The traffic madness that happens in Julianstown on a daily basis needs to be addressed urgently. We were informed that an appraisal is being currently being carried out and ex-pected to be with the Dept of Transport before Christmas 2018. There are approx 25,000 vehicles driving through the vil-lage each day, many of them over the speed limit, and with works beginning on the school in the new year, this will only get worse. We were informed that this project was not on the Govt Capital In-frastructure Plan at the moment but we’re hoping, with plenty of pressure, it will be put on as a priority project. At the Joint Policing Committee meet-ing we were given a demonstration of a Property Marking Machine as a means of preventing theft, sale of stolen property and return of property found. I have asked that some way be found to purchase one of these machines for our Municipal Dis-trict for us all to avail of. Continued over....Next >
