The 2018 Sports Day lived up to and exceeded expectations. The competitive spirit was alive and well from the very start, when the ‘Clash of the Clanns’ began. Students representing their Clann competed for titles in track events as well as fun competitions like egg and spoon race, 3 legged sprint and penalty shootout. Lunch included hotdogs, burg-ers, ice-creams and crepes plus home bak-ing donated by parents. The highlight of the day was the 4 way tug of war that al-lowed the 4 Clanns to test their strength at the same time. The new room is a wonderful asset for the school and recently, 2 additional school music clubs started, making full use of the fabu-lous facility.Later in the day a Graduation Mass was celebrated by Franciscan Fr Ulic Troy who had travelled from Cork that morning. This was a lovely ceremony with music, singing by the school junior and senior choirs and readings by students of the school. The graduation ceremony itself was held in the grand Assembly Hall where awards were presented, in particular the Clann awards for the unique house points sys-tem, the college is so very proud of. Clann Padraig was the overall winning Clann and we congratulate its members who played a lead role in Clann activities throughout the school year.During the ceremony Principal Dermot Lavin congratulated the many award win-ners and wished the class of 2018 the very best for their future. ‘An education from Franciscan College Gormanston is a holistic one. The departure of confident young men and women who are good communicators, respectful towards themselves and others and reaching their academic potential, ready to take on the challenges of our world and society today is what we aspire to.’Afterwards food and refreshments were served in the College Study Hall hosted by 5th year parents and the Parents Asso-ciation. §© September 2018 The Meath Coaster9CityNorth Hotel Family Fun Day Sunday 26th August 2018CityNorth Hotel Gormanston Co.
