Our congratulations to the Neptune Hotel, for winning the Best Shop Front award. It is a great achievement for Marina and all the staff at the Neptune Hotel, continued success and our thanks for their support of BTT.Christmas EventIt’s that time of year again and BTT vol-unteers are busy planning the Bettystown Xmas Tree and Street Lighting event. It will be held on Saturday December 1st, car-ols starting at 5.30 and the lights will be switched on at 6.00 pm. It was a great suc-cess last year and we hope to replicate that success again, this year. Carol singers from Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh will be enter-taining us and Santa has promised us that he will drop by to see the boys and girls.Street ClosureDue to the large crowds that attended last year, this year, for Health & Safety rea-sons, the slip road in front of Pats Centra will be closed to traffic and parking from 4.00 pm until 7.00 pm, on December 1st. The girls have been learning about the history of All Hal-lows’ Eve. Halloween first began as the festival of Samhain. This was part of the ancient Celtic religion in Ireland, Britain and other parts of Europe. The Celts thought that the barrier between our world and the world of ghosts and spirits got really thin at the end of sum-mer which meant strange creatures with spooky powers could wander around the Earth. We have also been learning about some Halloween traditions and customs such as dressing up, trick or treating, jack-o-lanterns and apple bobbing. Our classrooms were decorated to suit the Hal-loween theme and we had some spooky artwork decorating the walls. They chil-dren have been busy in school creating Halloween songs, poems, art and drama.
