The benefits of Futsal in addition to fun include greater ball touches & control, speed of play and enhanced decision taking along with improved shooting, and encouraged learning by all players on the pitch. Testimonials from players such as Xavi, Ronaldo, Dani Alves, Neymar & Zidane all praise the benefits Futsal had for them and for young kids in developing their technique. All our U8 to U12 teams who took part and played 6 weeks of indoor futsal really enjoyed it during the off season which as a club Donacarney recognise as a great addition to our pre- season now that most leagues are calendar football. Pictured right are some our teams who took part in the event. We would like to thank Paul Keogh & Mick Pender from the FAI for a very well organised tournament along with the venue co-ordina-tors.Futasal TournementOur U12 White’s continued their unbe-lievable SFAI National Cup run with their recent victory over Westpost United in Castlemartin. Ten coaches took part in the very informative and practical training day, which focussed on adapting coaching ses-sions for people with a range of disabili-ties. The training was an important milestone in the club's preparations for launching the Football for All programme, the first of its kind in the area. Feedback from the coaches who participated in the training was very positive. Stephen O'Reilly, who will be the head coach for the Football for All programme commented "Great course which really forced me to think about how I deliver my message to players and to be conscious of the varying abilities in my squad. I'm looking forward to this excit-ing development in our community and being able to provide football for kids who haven't had that opportunity up to now". Director of Football Dave Gaffrey add-ed "this is a great development not just for the club but for the community as a whole. The benefits of football and physi-cal activity are well known. Every child, regardless of ability, should have this op-tion. That's what Football for All is about" What is the Football for All pro-gramme?Football for All is for primary school age children who have an interest in soccer and would like to develop their skills and have fun in a supportive and non-compet-itive environment. The programme is well suited to children who have a disability or additional needs, but it is open to any primary school age child who would like to play football, but not on a mainstream team. Children must be at least 5 years of age or currently enrolled in primary school to be eligible to join the programme. Where and when will Football for All take place? We are holding a taster session on Satur-day 10th March from 3-3.30pm on the all-weather pitch at East Meath United on the Minnistown Road. The taster will be fol-lowed by an information session for par-ents in the EMU Red Card Cafe. Places for the taster session are limited and must be reserved by emailing Football4all@eastmeathunited.ie or by phoning Lara © March 2018 The Meath Coaster63Synnott on 085 7168634. New volunteers who would like to help with the programme as a member of the support team are always welcome. Coaches Corner, by Dave GafreyIt's all systems go as season 2018 kicks off. Teams have been training hard in the All-weather at ministown with weekend friendlies becoming the norm. Thanks to our friends at the new full-size Astro in DIFE matches had gone ahead even when the poor weather threatened to halt play. Newly formed squads at u12, & u14 have performed especially well given so many new personnel. New u8's are mak-ing final preparations to take into 5-a-side games thanks to coaches Damien, Barry and Philip. These Academy graduates are the next crop of fine young EMU talent bidding to carry on the tradition of good Football played with smiles on their faces. Oisín Jordan (FAI) presented a fantastic workshop at ministown for 10 of our finest coaches preparing to work on our 'football for all' program. It was a fantastic learning experience for everyone involved in what promises to be a challenging but very re-warding departure for the club. Girls Football is picking up the pace at our Academy with numbers growing on a weekly basis. Our ultimate aim is to re-turn to the glory days of EMU Gems, an extremely successful girls team who man-aged to produce 3 Irish youth internation-als. Our u16Prem and u17A teams have a limited number of spaces left with Aidan, Gareth & Stephen making final plans for the year ahead.Goalkeeper coaching continues every Fri night in ministown with UEFA C licence coaches Robert and Luke providing ex-pert keeper specific training to kids of all ages and abilities. Proof of their labour is evident every weekend with keepers dis-tribution and fundamental skills improv-ing remarkably. The two lads are a price-less asset to East Meath United. §© March 2018 The Meath Coaster64EST. 1950Cockhill Road, Stamullen, Co. The u9, 10 and 11 go games teams got back into blitz action this month whilst the u13 and 15 boys have completed 3 rounds of the Leinster Leagues. These have proven to be a great success and we have taken a "development" approach to these trying new things and it has worked very well. We have also made some good friends across the province and we look forward to playing these teams more often into the future. The u17 boys have won their opening two games in the league as they aim to build on their u16 successes of © March 2018 The Meath Coaster692017. Keep working hard lads and driv-ing on. Our ladies teams are also back in action with the u16 girls leagues up and running. Both teams have started very well and it’s a sign of the great work being undertaken that we are fielding two teams at this level. In the meantime our adult ladies teams are working very hard and after a number of friendly matches will be eager to get into competitive action as soon as possible. It has been a tough start to the adult men's leagues with county commitments and injuries depriving us of a number of starters but our young players have grasped the opportunity with both hands and done very well. A special word to all our adult debutants across the A and B leagues. These young players have re-ally stood out and staked a claim and defi-nitely belong at this level. Well done to everyone .
