< Previous© June 2018 The Meath Coaster70Football is always the winner & that which Devils produced. These were good Northern teams today that our lads were against, kids with exceptional talent from the hosts, Chimney Corner, Carrick Rvrs, Bellurgan, Windmill Stars & Glentoran. But our boys were supreme, I guess it was tiredness and fatigue that set in, in the end with a roll on roll off next match structure. Thanks to all the parents from EMU that attended without you, your support for your son and club this event could not of taken place. Massive thanks to the coaching team who do great work with this bunch of players.EMU Titans v Skerries Cup GameOne of the most exciting matches to take place this year in Minnistown was EMU U14 Titans Cup match against Skerries. Let's be honest down to the bare bones on the day with numbers wise with only 11 players available, not even one sub, compared that to the visiting team. Two half's of 30mins plus two half's of 10 mins for ET followed by Pens. Tired and drained legs, someone had to lose and someone had to advance. It’s recognisable that they might not be the best team yet, but are getting there and they will there is no doubt about that. These are a great bunch of individuals & as a team they dug deep and never gave up. Representing themselves and their club with 'Respect' 'Ambition' 'Effort' 'Teamwork' 'Humility' our core values at East Meath United.Possibly the best match thats been covered and one of the best memories to capture. Eleven players, One Coach this images tells you all about what it means to them. Fancy joining this team and think you have what it takes then give Robbie Corr a call on 087-6299433 players born 2004/2005, training Tuesdays 7-8 & Thursdays 8-9 on the AWP in Ministown.Coaches Corner “RESPECT”With the world cup fast approaching it promises to be an exciting summer of football tying in nicely with our calender season and as usual in this knock out competition the focus will often be on referees, officials and their performances. In recent years FIFA have invested a great deal of time and money in their 'Respect'campaign, highlighting the need The winning penalty v Skerries in recent cup game© June 2018 The Meath Coaster71to change attitudes towards racism and behaviour towards referees. We've regularly seen children carry banners on the pitch before games, Advertising boards around the grounds and high profile stars doing ads on the TV. Unfortunately it's clear to see that at the highest levels of our game very little has changed and there's some way to go yet.Thankfully my own experiences at grassroots level has been somewhat different. The FAI driven campaign 'show racism the red card' has been an extremely worthwhile exercise which EMU were delighted to support and showed all of our kids and the opposition the importance of respecting Every person regardless of creed or colour. Our club have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to racism. It's also fair to say that attitudes towards referees are improving. Again the 'don't cross the line' campaign launched by the FAI a few years back creates an atmosphere where children can play at a short distance from onlookers but far enough away from commentary that might otherwise make the game nervous or tense for the players. This in turn has made the coaches and officials job easier where the focus is now on enjoyment and progress. We all make mistakes, coaches (who are parents in many cases), players and officials. We are only human after all, however as a club we insist that we continue to respect our visiting referees who continue to do a valuable job.Respect must stretch even further though, as a key core value of EMU we ask everyone to appreciate all that's great about our game and our club. Huge work continues behind the scenes every week to maintain high standards at our grounds, the pitches, the all weather, our car park and coffee shop. Managers meetings, coaches workshops, training courses are frequently held as well as committee & sub committee meetings. Many of these people are largely unknown. Most coaches give up their time year on year for little reward on or off the pitch. Few of us ever ask, who marks those pitches or cuts the grass? Who takes the photos or picks up the rubbish each week. These hard working volunteers never ask for recognition or praise but as a mark of respect if you ever bump into such a person it would mean everything just to say 'well done'. Finally we simply ask all our members to Respect each other, our neighbours and visitors. The past couple of weeks of sunshine has made the weekend football so enjoyable, results on the pitch have been fantastic and with the continued hard work of everyone we can go from strength to strength.§© June 2018 The Meath Coaster72EST. 1950Cockhill Road, Stamullen, Co. Two of our hardest work-ing members Liam and Ken get on with their work quietly and with no fuss and for no reason other than to see the Club grow and develop. No task is too big for these shining examples to all. Liam is well known as a club coach but less known for his critical and essential role of manag-ing the Piltown facility, managing lights and locking up long after the crowds have cleared. Ken is a well-known ladies coach but also the founder of our “Inclu-sion” GAA programme. We were the first GAA club in Meath to launch an “Inclu-sion” programme and it is through Ken’s drive and leadership that that happened. Well done to both Liam and Ken – two in-dividuals who epitomise all that the word “Volunteer” meansAcademy Our famed academy for 4-9 year olds has returned and takes place every Sunday at our Piltown grounds from 11am. Eve-ryone in our catchment area is welcome to come along and give it a go. All our coaches are vetted, trained and all coach-ing is provided in an encouraging and supportive manner. Why not come along and give it a try? We would remind every-one to arrive early, to car pool where you can, observe all parking instructions and that parents/guardians should remain on Congratulations to Liam Walsh and Ken McHutcheon our Carroll Estates/Cois na Mara Voluteer of the Month award winners for April and May.
