As we write this article we are finalizing the 2018 Village Light event and when this article is published, the event will be over and, we hope, it will have been a great night for all involved. It is our intention to en-hance this event every year. This year we added some decorations, the Bettystown Bows, along the Triton Road, where we cannot install lights, the vacant buildings art work, and we held the 12 days of Christmas count-down raffle, culminating in the turning on of the lights. Our sincere thanks to all the businesses for supporting this annual event, please remember to shop local and support our local businesses.2018 was a busy and successful year for BTT, winning the Best New Group in the Meath County Council Pride of Place awards and The Neptune Hotel winning Best Shop Front award. Aside from the weekly litter picks we have completed the painting of common area walls and street furniture. A new flower bed has been created by the beach entrance and new plants planted in the planters. New signage for the village has been ordered and will be installed in January 2019. The signs were created with the input from the Bettystown Business Alliance group and Meath County Council. We are very lucky to have two great guys, Gary and Paul, from the Community Employment and TUS schemes. Their work during the week is of immense value to us and is ap-preciated by locals and businesses, thank you Gary and Paul. We are already making our plans for 2019 and two of the projects we have for next year is to tidy up and maintain the vacant site near the beach entrance and in another vacant site we plan on creating a pollina-tor site. We will need some help setting up the site, clearing undergrowth, planting, painting etc. If this project is of interest to you, and you would like to assist in some way, we would appreciate it if you would contact us to discuss further.Bettystown Village is your village and if you want to be involved in some aspect of its development, or you want to assist with organising an event, enhancing a specific area or you just want to help out now and again, then, why not consider joining BTT. You can contact us through our Facebook page or meet us in the vil-lage any Saturday morning between 10.00 and 11.00, when we are out and about in the village with our hi-vis jackets.Wishing you all the very best over the fes-tive season and best wishes for the New Year. §Sonas agus síocháin na Nollag chugat, agus bliain nua faoi shéan agus faoi mhaise. The children were shown how to resusci-tate, make a sling and save someone from choking. They also got to check out the Civil Defence jeep and examine all the first aid equipment. They had a super time learning this new information.
