< Previous© May 2017 The Meath Coaster50Senior FootballIt was a mixed bag for our senior foot-ballers this month with wins coming against county champions Simonstown on a score line of 1:15 to 1:12and most recently Rathkeny by 5:11 to 0:12. Our loss came at the hands of Blackhall Gaels by 1:9 to 0:10. These games now leave St Pats sitting in 7th after 6 rounds but still only 2 points off second place. Next up is Moynalvey. Junior FootballMuch like our seniors our Juniors had mixed results in the league this month. A heavy defeat to Donaghmore/Ashbourne at the start of the month was hard to take but the lads responded well to get a draw against a strong Simonstown side in Stamullen. The lads came from 12 points behind at one stage in the second half and were unlucky not to get the win after a late 45 gave Simonstown the draw. Pats now sit in 6th after 4 rounds. Next up is Skyrne.UnderageThe lads had their last league game Fri-day night at home V Longwood/Clonard and a return to winning ways for the U17s thanks to a 4-8 to 3-9 score line. Already guaranteed a semi-final place, we needed a win to make sure of a home semi-final and the lads just scrapped over the line. We were leading by a point at half time. St.Patricks 1-03 Longwood/Clonard 1-02.We stormed into a 7 point lead in the sec-ond half thanks to 3 points from Jack Con-nelan and a Tommy Flanaghan goal, how-ever our visitors never gave up and came back into the game and we just about sur-vived with a 2 point win. We now have a home semi-final to luck forward to.Our U16’s had 3 games this in April against Rathkenny, Kilmainhamwood and St Cutberts. We had good wins against Rathkenny who the lads put away 3-14 to 4-7 in an excellent game of football and a very comfortable win against Kilmain-hamwood by 6-9 to 4-2. The only dropped points came against St Cutberts who we drew with on a scoreline of 4-11 to 4-11. The Lads then had another tricky away Cockhill Road, Stamullen, Co. MeathT: 086 1731739 E: pro.stpatricksmeath@gmail.comEST. 1950Naomh Padraig GAA© May 2017 The Meath Coaster51trip all the way out to Moylagh to play group leaders St.Olivers. With a few lads injured and missing, we were up against it. We only had 13 available and as the game went on we struggled to keep up with our hosts. We were 5 points down at half time but that was as close as we got. The lads still in running for semi-final places and next two games are crucial and we won’t fear St.Olivers if we have to face them again as the score line didn’t truly reflect the game. Final score St.Olivers 5-18 St.Patricks 3-06Our U14s opened their league campaign with an impressive 6-05 v 2-10 win away to Kilmainhamwood. They then faced a strong St. Michael’s/Nobber who put up a big scoreline of 8-8 to 1-8 against us. The league is only 2 rounds old however so there is still lots to play for here. Congratulations to the St. Pat’s U9 and U10 players who represented Stamullen / Julianstown very well in the Meath Com-munity Games in Trim today. A great bat-tling performance saw them beaten by just three points in the semi-final by eventual winners Donaghmore Ashbourne. Aiden Territt was outstanding in goals all day, behind a solid defence of Cathal McCa-rthy, Declan Lenehan, Ralph Boland, Nel-son Kumbedi and Aaron Russell. Eoighan ó Fuairuisge and Oisin Moran worked tirelessly in midfield while Fergal Hack-ett, Ben Murray, Thomas Brangan, Sand-ile and Andile Sibanda provided some great excitement up front. Although they were disappointed to go so close, the boys showed great skill, grit and determination today and hopefully some of them will be back again next year.Well done to all the under 7 girls and boys who hurled out of their helmets this morn-ing at Ratoath. It was their first match on grass and they battled magnificently throughout. Also a big thank you to the Mams and Dads for the early start and distance travelled which gave St Patrick's Gaa great representation in Ratoath.LadiesSuper U10’s begin their journey in the LeagueCastletown were the visitors last Friday to Stamullen for the first league match of the season and on a glorious evening in East Meath, the girls were eager to show off their skills for all the parents who had come out to support them. Under new management this term with Mark Burns, Denise McKernan and Eamonn Barnwell at the helm the last 8 weeks of pre-season training has been intense and the competi-tion to get into the starting eleven made all the more difficult by excellent perfor-mances by all the girls v Colmcilles, Mat-tock Rangers and Man O’War in the build up to the new season. I am sure Mark had a sleepless night on Thursday working out his best combination to take to the field the next day.So with a few nerves around the girls took to field to compete and over four quar-ters put on a lovely exhibition of skills © May 2017 The Meath Coaster52and scoring for all who saw it. As this is a non-competitive league there are no scores kept but a few of girls who despite having to concentrate and play a match were able to tell us with authority that Pats were very strong and taking many of their chances. Castletown also had their chances and have some lovely football-ers coming through so the future is bright for Meath LGFA. Our girls have also been training with our U12’s so based on what we have seen so far the early indications are that the two sessions a week are not just developing their skills but also the fitness levels which is great to see. The games and training have really brought on the girls and they are really enjoying their football at the moment.A couple of people to thank. To the players who come every week to training, listen and try to improve on their skill levels, this is what it is about as coaches for us, the winning is a nice add on. To the parents who get them ready and out the door for training and matches. To the management team of Mark, Den-ise and Eamonn you have done a great job working with them over the last few months to get them ready. To Phil and U12’s for allowing the girls to watch and train with the older players on a Monday night so they can see and learn from some excellent players in that group as well. To the PCC for allowing the girls to play their first match of the season on the main pitch. To Elaine from Castletown for making the long trek over on a Friday night and finally to Hazel Callaghan who refereed the match fairly for both teams.Well done to our very own Roybn O'Byrne who line out for the Meath U14's last weekend.A Meath under 14 squad made the short trip up the N2 to the St Mary's club grounds in Ardee to face Louth on Satur-day morning. It proved to be a fantastic game of football, showing the strength in depth in Meath football at that age, as the team gave a great account of themselves against a good team and coming away with a narrow victory.Senior ladiesSt Pats welcomed Wolfetones to Stamullen on Sunday 24th April for the 3rd round League tie. The Pats girls were re-ally up for this one after losing out by a single point in the last round. It really was © May 2017 The Meath Coaster53a very dominant performance from the Stamullen/Julianstown ladies from start to finish against a very Valiant Wolfetones outfit who never gave up, but the scour-ing power from St Pats all over the pitch proved just too strong, they say goals win games but what was more encouraging from the management team was the 21 points scored with 17 of them coming from play! Final Score St Pats 8-21 Wolf-etones 2- 2St Pats:Hazel Callaghan, Josie Wogan, Caro-line Macken (Cpt) Sydney Stereo, Ciara Mc Quillan, Yasmin Walsh, Laura Bax-ter, Ellen Grant, Ciara Rothwell, Leah Loughran, Hannah Mannion, Laura Mac Donald, Gwen O’ Brien, Emma White, Katie Dowling, Jade Geraghty, Hannah Maloney.Management Team: Martin Byrne, Dar-ragh Maloney, Damien Geraghty.Lotto WinWell done again to Colin Kelly again on winning our lotto jackpot.
