< Previous© April 2017 The Meath Coaster10Credit Union Quiz Success Our credit union quiz team comprising of Conor, Darragh, Tom and Cormac enjoyed success at the recent chapter level quiz held in the Pillo Hotel, Ashbourne on Friday March 3rd. Although the questions were tough, and unfortunately Billy (who was on the winning team at local level) was not available to contribute his knowl-edge, the boys battled it out to come out tops in the U13 section. They now look forward with great anticipation to the Na-tional Final on April 2nd in the RDS, Dub-lin where they will compete with teams from all over Ireland. We are all extremely proud of their successes to date and wish them the very best of luck! Third Class on 2Fm RadioBoys from third class were live on the Nicky Byrne show in 2Fm as part of a competition during March. They made their greatest effort to be the loudest class in Ireland in order to win a concert from the Irish band Seo Linn. Unfortunately they were pipped at the post by Friday’s entry, although the boys were consoled when Nicky awarded them the night off homework for their efforts! Well done boys! They brought with them a variety of instruments and entertained the boys with polkas, reels and jugs. All the boys danced two ceilí dances whilst the musi-cians played. On March 24 Calem Martin, Eoghan Boland and Eolain Downey took part in the Leinster Senior Debating Final in Trinity. From a competition that started with over 200 speakers they were part of the illustrious final 12. Despite impressive performances from the trio, speakers from Loreto Beau-fort and Castleknock Community College ultimately secured the titles on a night of particularly strong competition in Trinity. Nonetheless, it has been a fantastic year for Calem, Eoghan and Eolain. On Saturday March 25th first year Laragh Phillips and third year Harry Wilders took part in the All Ireland Junior Finals' Day in Belvedere College where the country's top 80 speakers (from 600 that started!) will compete for the titles of All Ireland Winner and All Ireland Best First Year. David Milner became the first ever student to achieve top marks in his Junior Certificate Materials Technology (Wood), scoring a perfect 300 marks out of 300 to beat the long-standing record of 299. David's phenomenal achievement included 100/100 marks for his Theory exam, 70/70 marks for his portfolio and 130/130 marks for his practical project. This is the first time in the history of the subject that a student has achieved the perfect score of 300/300 in Materials Technology (Wood) with the previous record being 299/300. David was an out-standing student and deserves every credit for his achievement. To acknowledge his achievement, David was invited to GMIT in Galway last weekend, where he was presented with a certificate and award for his record-breaking work. Two Coláiste na hInse Dramas Nomi-nated for National PrizesMarch brought some incredible news for the Coláiste's student led drama groups. Julianstown once again won a gold award in the Meath Co. Co. Anti Litter League and thanked all those who turned out for An Taisce National Spring Clean. An actual comment said to one of our tidy towns team “ I so enjoy bringing friends to Julianstown, they all comment on what a pretty village it is, and that we are so lucky to be living here” We are sure there must be a few people agreeing with this! Annual Clean UpOn that note ...an appeal.... It’s our annual clean up on April the 8th starting at 10 am. We are looking for help from proud Resi-dents and the surrounding areas, to spend an hour cleaning up verges, hedgerows, back roads, lanes in their area, so please contact, Niamh, 086 3477283, Jackie 087 6579884 who will supply litter pickers bags and gloves, the rubbish will then be collected, and taken to a skip at White-cross School, where, if you would like to join us for Tea, Coffee, Juice and Bis-cuits.
