Welcome to our school community
A big welcome to our new parents, guardians and children. It was a pleasure to greet all of our new 3rd class pupils as they lined up for their first day in our school on 1st September. This is always an exciting time of year, as we get to know our children and parents. Our teachers have now completed virtual parent teacher meetings to introduce themselves to their class parents, and the feedback has been extremely positive. We also welcome two new teachers to our school – Mr Brendan Lynch in 4th class and Ms Roisin Commons, also in 4th class. They are both very familiar with our school which has made for a smooth transition.
We would ask that parents please remain vigilant as we continue to navigate our way around COVID. We promote a sense of ownership, a sense of calm, a sense of positivity as we adapt the teaching and learning in our school. Online learning is an integral part of the homework. The Board of Management and the Parents Association continue to invest in Digital Technologies in the school. We are in anticipation of another suite of chrome books as the children are becoming very proficient in the use of technology.
Staff are busy upskilling through online CPD and webinars, while the SET Team are expanding their knowledge and expertise with a variety of professional development training.
The School Leadership Team have undertaken a coaching initiative with the Centre for Schools Leaders. SSN is a hub of activity as we embark on an exciting new academic year. The possibility of a decant to the Youth Reach building is still very much a reality. We hope to get the green light soon.
Bláithín Maguire, Principal.

The children in Ms.Kearney’s 3rd class have been using a set of the school’s chromebooks this month. They have used these in class for setting up an individual spelling programmes, maths games and reading. The children in SSN are going to be extremely tech-savvy!
Some thoughts from the children:
“I think that the chromebooks are a great experience. The good part is that children like me get a new thing to practice. I can’t wait to learn more on the chromebooks.” (Aoife)
“Using the chromebooks is extremely fun! Whenever my teacher tells my class and I to pack up and hands me a chrome book, the biggest smile comes up on my face.” (Doireann)
On-line learning lessons in class are equipping our children to be proficient at using various tools in the on-line environment – as well as teaching them to stay safe while they are on-line. Our children now have regular classes with school chromebooks and IT equipment.
Reminder to Parents – please ensure that your children have warm jackets with them every day from now on. The days are getting cooler and we have windows open to ventilate our classrooms. We are also trying to avail of as much fresh air as possible for the children if the weather is dry.
Life Skills in Ms Kierans Class had the corridors smelling divine. Ms Cahill and Ms O’Sullivan lent a hand and the children were then hands on!
And we can testify that the result was just delicious !!. §
