Well folks, there’s light on the horizon!! As I write this we have the bones of the plans for reopening the country and how it’s going to affect sports. It’s going to be very gradual and slow but at least it’s moving in the right direction and I for one would prefer a slow opening than opening up and having to do the whole stop/start on lockdowns again. Fingers crossed everything keeps moving in the right direction. Keep an eye out on Facebook and your club Whatsapp groups for update information. At this very moment we don’t have official confirmation from our governing body Athletics Ireland on the reopening guidelines for clubs, so we can’t say exactly until we have that what the reopening plan is.
As we await news of our impending return to training in groups, the adult members of Cilles Ac are engaged in a distance league. Points for kilometres walked and run, points for aerobic activities, everyone has a team and works together to earn points towards the team total. We’ll have prizes after four weeks and fingers crossed by the end of the Summer we’ll be able to have a get together to celebrate the eventual victors!! Each week we’re having a weekly challenge, each person who completes the challenge goes into the draw for that weeks prize. This week the lovely Clare Moore after moving more than 5km everyday, claimed her prize for a Callaghan’s butcher voucher. We’re keeping all the prizes local in support of our wonderful local businesses, hope you all can too.
In March we wished bon voyage to our club pal Donal Harrington. Donal, as well as being a talented runner has been a source of joy and inspiration to all. He never missed a photo call, he kept everyone laughing and was a source of constant support when coaching the couch to 5k group. The West of Ireland is gaining a wonderful human being and we’ll miss him but of course we’ll be seeing him again once we can all get to a race or two, roll on those vaccines!! Here’s a fab pic of Donal (far left) enjoying the post run glow at the Meath relay championships, can’t wait to get back to a bit of running!
