The Stamullen Roundup – February 2021

The Stamullen Roundup

By Grace Tierney

Anybody still mourning the very quick visit of snow to the village in mid January should check out the hurling snowman created by local national school teacher Mr King on the St. Patrick’s school facebook page. We now know where all the snow went to that morning! https://www.facebook.com/stamullenschool

Huge congrats to Oisin Black, a member of this year’s under 15s boys St. Pat’s team, who is running an unusual fundraiser for The Jack and Jill Foundation as they provide nursing care for his younger sister, Alice. His ‘Bag Some Boots’ campaign gives you a chance to win a pair of signed football boots from famous sports stars. He has nabbed 35 pairs already from Leinster rugby stars, inter county footballers and League of Ireland players so there’s something for everyone. Any donation no matter how big or small is greatly appreciated. He’s already stormed past his €2,000 target to €4,425 at time of writing. Link to GoFundMe page: gf.me/u/zadn8y/

Usually at this time of the year people are signing up for evening classes. Do you know that you can attend evening classes online, for free, via your local library? You get six months to complete the course, at your own speed, and plenty of support via articles, videos, email support from the tutor, and mini quizzes and assignments. The variety of classes is huge – from topics that might help you in work, to hobbies like photography and painting, and through to general interest courses like history, business, writing, DIY, self-help, law etc. All you need is your library card number. Check out the course catalogue at https://library.universalclass.com/catalog/index.htm?frmurl=www and find out more about Meath Libraries and Universal Classes at https://www.meath.ie/council/council-services/libraries/online-resources/elearning-courses

If you’re more likely to browse a seed catalogue than a course catalogue at this time of year then don’t forget to join the Stamullen Gardening group on facebook for encouragement, great photos, and advice. Plans are afoot to make our village bloom this year and all are welcome to join in https://www.facebook.com/groups/stamullengardening

The footpath from the Redwood residential care centre to the village has been approved for funding from the Town and Village renewal scheme, making that stretch of road much safer for pedestrians.

Important Reminder – Stamullen CA Volunteer Group is still available to do deliveries for those who are restricting their movements (due to medical issues, waiting on test results, or because they have tested positive, etc). You can contact them on facebook, via the chemist and butchers, or ring 0876355519.

The parish office is currently closed but you can contact Fr. Declan via secretary@sjparish.ie or 01-8412647 and Sunday Mass is via YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMaC1cpFBS-qQ8JGKYPvkOw

** Please note that changes to public health Covid 19 restrictions may affect events. Check with organisers if you have concerns.
