< PreviousMarch 2017 The Meath Coaster ©50Stamullen Football ClubClub news. The Under 11 Girls team at Stamullen FC have progressed to the semi final of the Herald Cup which is due to be played on Sunday February 26, 2017 against Shel-bourne at Gormonston. In the quarter final we knocked out Terenure in a thrilling en-counter, clawing our way back from 3-1 down at half time, to win 4-3. We have been training almost every day this week to ensure we are as ready as can be for the visitors. Well done to each and every player on the team who turn out week in and week out and the support of the par-ents/guardians is much appreciated and gives the players a real boost. The team are coached by Alison Brennan and Joe O’Sullivan. Best of luck girls.Stamullen AFC does Strictly come dancing update!Saturday February 11th saw Stamullen Football Club put on their first ever Strictly Come Danc-ing event. As this was the biggest fundraising event Stamullen FC had ever contemplated we knew we needed to bring in the profes-sionals. When Kevin Rowe Events came on board it was evident our night would be a huge success as their professionalism shone through.Within weeks of advertising the event, 32 people signed up to dance, their en-thusiasm was electric and their commit-ment was 110%. We’ve had so much fun watching the dancers progress week after week, what they have collectively achieved for our football club is nothing short of amazing. The choreographers were real pros, en-suring our 16 nervous couples knew their group & individual dances so well they could dance with confidence. The support and encouragement the audi-ence gave each and every dancer was ab-solutely fantastic. You were an amazing audience....congratulations!!!The group dance to 24 Karat Magic by Bruno Mars will be renowned as the song for Stamullen FC.The judges on the night Darragh Maloney, Noel Hand & Natasha from Kevin Rowe Events were brilliant, they entertained both the dancers and the audience alike with their comments, humour & quick wit.We wish thank our main event sponsor City North Hotel & Conference Centre, your attention to detail and accommodat-ing nature has been very much appreci-ated. We look forward to working with you again in the future on other fundrais-ing projects.Thank you to the sponsors whose adver-March 2017 The Meath Coaster ©51tisements appeared in the programme, your financial support has been amazing and without this support our financial goal wouldn’t have been possible.A special mention to Jenni-fer Byrne and her team from You’re Gorgeous, Priscilla Rogers and her team from Pricilla’s Beauty Parlour and Louise & Kate Maloney who all did an amazing job beautifying our 32 dancers. Brendan Battersby & his staff from Whytes Pub in Stamullen must be congratulated for their continued support of Stamullen FC. Brendan always goes above and be-yond with his generosity, his ideas, his pub and more. His function room was made available morning, noon & night for our dancers to practice and perfect their dances to ensure the audience got what they came for, which was ‘a crackin great show’!!!Special thanks to Joe Higgins for making the amaz-ing trophy. It was amazing. Congratulations to our winners on the night Adele & Simon Treacy who took home the coveted Glitterball.Congratulations also to Stuart Marry & Grainne Kiernan who won the trophy for the best video ‘Haribo’.The Fundraising Committee, Grainne Carmody, Antoinette Carroll, Marie O’Sullivan & Adele Tracey want to thank the people of Stamullen and the sur-rounding areas for the support given which ensured our Strictly Event was a huge success. The support given by all was over-whelming.We want to assure everyone who supported the event that the money raised will be spent on pitch development which will ensure our continued success well into the future.Club Contact Details: -Email - stamullenfc@gmail.com Facebook - www.facebook.com/stamullenfcClub Secretary - Marcus Kelly – 0851477825Website – www.stamullenfc.com March 2017 The Meath Coaster ©52We will open this month with an apology as there are simply no words that could capture or do justice to the month that has just passed, a special month that saw a community come to-gether under one banner, a month of col-our, excitement on a level never seen be-fore and pride. Pride in our place, where we are from and who we are - a special and never to be forgotten time. Here’s to many more !!The Greatest DayAs the sun rose on February 19th weeks of anticipation finally came to an end. Dreams were being fulfilled and a caval-Naomh Colmcille C.L.G.March 2017 The Meath Coaster ©53cade of buses, cars and trains set of en-route to the beacon that was Croke Park. After 14 matches and a journey that had wound through Simonstown, Bective, Slane, Duleek, Navan, Arklow, Kildare and Armagh history was being made as St Colmcilles would take to field and be-come only the second Meath club to grace the hallowed turf. Courage, resilience and fearlessness are the qualities that have seen this bunch of players stand on the cusp of history and capture the hearts and minds of supporters the lands over. We had memorable and glorious days in Navan, Kildare and Armagh, never to be forgotten moments and experienced a roller coaster of emotions over the sea-March 2017 The Meath Coaster ©54son. And then at 3.42pm to an eruption of noise and mayhem Ben Brennan led a band of warriors onto the sacred ground. Of course we should have expected no more than a game that swung viciously from side to side, a game that saw hearts and minds put through the ringer and a game that would come down to the last seconds. Ah yes those qualities of cour-age, resilience and fearlessness came to the fore again and have marked this squad out. In the end it came down to the last few seconds, the width of a cross bar, inches mere inches, seconds mere seconds and the dream was over (for now). The score board will show a Westport win on a 2-12 to 3-8 score line but there were no losers. The magic did not end. In the af-termath of defeat the St Colmcilles club gained even more support and honour. The courage and dignity shown in defeat – qualities important to our club garnered headlines in the national press and won new friends and whilst the pain of losing in this the toughest of tough champion-ships at this final stage hurt even more in the hours and days ahead, what happened on that journey is sure to pay dividends and bear fruit in the times ahead. Croke Park was the end of the road? No way – just another step in a journey that will see the club work tirelessly in its comminute every single day. Thanks for the memories lads – here’s to many many moreMarch 2017 The Meath Coaster ©55Thank You AllWe’ve all travelled on a special journey and to our thousands of fans and support-ers we thank you so much for playing YOUR part in our season.
