Afterwards, there was even more fun and games when he and Damien demonstrated some of the drones’ capabili-ties to the assembled pupils and teachers.It was an amazing hour. It opened our eyes to the power of STEAM-that’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. And taught us the power of following our dreams.Bunscoil Buachaillí Réalt na MaraRomeo Durscher was a boy with a big dream. Born in Switzerland, he wanted to become an astronaut. But Switzerland wasn’t really involved in any big space programmes. And anyway, as Romeo discovered later, he could not even become a pilot because he suffered from motion sickness.But his dream lived on. He got to Cali-fornia as a kid and was determined to get there again. California was the hub of space exploration and technology and Romeo dreamed of one day combining both passions into his career.When he left college, he joined NASA in San José, California. Thirteen years later, his friend took him out to fly drones in his local airfield. Romeo was hooked. He realised that he could use both his knowl-edge of space exploration and technology in working with drones. Nowadays he works as Director of Education in DJI, a company who manufacture drones. Romeo came to Donacarney Boys’ School last Friday to talk about his passion for drones, technology, space and realising dreams. Fellow drone whizz and parent of one of our pupils, Damien Doyle, in-troduced him.
