We had an absolute massive crowd of people down to support our fantastic box-ers and boy did you support. The noise you generated was huge and it help a lot of nervous boxers out as they were step-ping into the ring, and what a show they put on, some serious competitive bouts made for serious entertainment. We would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us on our night. Everyone who sponsored boxers, fights, corner posts etc, put in program advertisements and for buying raffle tick-ets. Thank you to everyone that came last Naomh Padraig GAADecember 2017 The Meath Coaster51night, it would not have been possible to be a success without your support. Thank you to white collar boxing for coming down and making it the night a success, it could not have been done without them. But the biggest thank you has to go to our amazing boxers, you were all incredible, you have made a massive impact on our club. Now to put all your hard work into effect to try and build our already brilliant club into the best in the county. We are currently in the process of count-ing and collecting the final bit of money to still come into us and every single euro will go onto help the club grow into a seri-ous force on the pitch.U13 boys division 2 championsSt. Pats 5-08 v 3-07 St. Peter’s, DunboyneThe U13 Division 2 final was played on a perfect evening for football in Dunganny and the two teams did not disappoint with a pulsating match that could have gone either way right up to the final moments. Dunboyne started like a greyhound out of the traps and were 1-02 to the good after the opening 5 mins. St. Pats were seri-ously rattled and struggled to get any kind of hold on the game as wave after wave of attacks rained down on the defence. It was backs to the wall stuff for the major-ity of the first half but they clinged on and stayed in touch with 3 fine points from Jamie Murphy (2) and the productive and hard-working Mannion. Miraculously, St. Pats only conceded 1-05 in the open-ing half and this was primarily down to the heroics of Daanish Akhtar and James Rowe in the full back-line who fought like warrior poets to contain the flamboyant Dunboyne inside forwards. Adam Kirby December 2017 The Meath Coaster52provided a much needed oxygen boost on the stroke of half-time with a superb goal, punching a high ball to the net to leave the scores 1-03 v 1-05 in favour of the boys from Dunboyne. The break in play provided an opportu-nity for St. Pats to reorganise and regroup, taking the game by the scruff of the neck with 2 points in the opening 5 mins of the second half to level the game at 1-05 each. Eoin Brennan and Aman Akhtar started to dominate in the half-back line but it was Ben McDonnell who really starred taking the game to the opposition with a relentless drive from left half back. This provided the platform for Hackett, Ke-ogh and McDonagh to cause problems up front and for Murphy to score two more points. Dunboyne responded with a killer goal and with 15 mins to go, the game was finely balanced with St. Pats one point in arrears. The game opened up and Oisin Black’s quick kickouts were crucial at this stage, always finding a teammate in space to attack. Pats were flying – Jamie Murphy with his tireless running, Man-nion linking play and the entire defence including Tadgh Lenihan putting every-thing on the line to gain possession for their team. Daithi Murphy and Donal Farrell continued to work determinedly, never giving up.Entering the final 10 mins, Dunboyne scored another goal to put their noses in front but that just inspired St. Pats into a final flurry of scores. Captain Sean Em-manuel started to charge at Dunboyne like a wild stallion and scored 2 goals and a point to swing the game in favour of the boys from St. Pats. McDonagh and Hack-ett added two more goals in the final mo-ments to finish the game off and ensure victory that appeared highly unlikely at half-time. Kirby finalised the contest with a touch of class, a point from an impos-sible angle right on the stroke of full-time. Not for the first time throughout the sea-son, this group has found some way to win a final when all the odds were stacked against them. They are a uniquely gifted December 2017 The Meath Coaster53team who possess the finest qualities when faced with apparently insurmount-able challenges and difficulties – they dig in and fight for each other until the bit-ter end. A true team in every sense of the word.As always, thank you to Niall Black, Pat Mannion and Nadeem Akhtar for mentor-ing the team throughout the year. Also, thanks to our sponsors Joe and Gloria McGuinness of Washingtons Dry Clean-ers in Drogheda for all their supportU13 girls championsUnder 13 Girls County Final – Dungan-ny, November 5th 2017.The memory of a 1 point defeat in last year’s U13 Shield final was in the mind of the players who were again present to-day. This year there were only tears of joy as our girls performed bravely to become U13 County Champions. Our defence (Lucy Flynn, Summer Sterio, Abigal Reddin, Keelin McKeown, Sinead Ntofon, Lara Hughes & Amy Processor) were under pressure from the start with Clonard kicking 3 unanswered points. Pat’s girls started to get to grips with the Astroturf surface, our midfield pairing of Ashing and Suzanna turning the tide against a talented Clonard midfield mov-ing great balls into our forward line. The forward line of (Megan McCormac, Megan Strolia, Tori Foster, Abigail Dun-gan, Becky Harney, Emma Ryan, Ciara Cronin) was now moving freely with a mixture short and long passing opening up the Clonard defence. Halftime came with Pats’ leading by 3:4(13 points) to Clonards’ 0:4 ( 4 points). The second half was a very tight affair. Both teams were evenly matched with Pats adding another 2:3(9 points) and Clonard adding 2:5(11 points). The Pats defence put in a gritty display closing down most goal opportunities with for-ward Emma Ryan reverting to corner back clearing all before her.Every player did their job today and did it well. Last year’s tears of sadness are now replaced with tears of joy. Commisera-tions to Clonard who played a hard fought game, your time will come.Big thanks to the coaches Linda, Ger, Dave and Anthony.U15 boys division 2 finalBest of luck to our U15 boys in the di-vision 2 league final this Sunday 26th No-vember in Dunganny. The effort was more than simply growing the Mo and its aim was to put Men’s Health to the forefront of our minds for the Month.
