< PreviousAugust 2017 The Meath Coaster ©40Cilles Athletic ClubNSP B5 Race The B5 race took place on the 18th of July and was a huge success! A fab-ulous evening of running, walking and community involvement was had by all. Over 430 runners took to the roads of Bettystown, in slightly cooler weather than last year. Our winner Freddy Ker-on came in with a time of 24:38 setting a new course record. Our ladies winner was Niamh Devlin who came in at 29:26 creating a new ladies course record. The finish line atmosphere was brilliant, Niall Bennett was pumping out the tunes and dishing out the spot prizes. The run-ners collected their medals, water, milk and fruit and then off to the golf club for their post race refreshments. Thank you to the residents of Brabazon for your pa-tience whilst our finish line was in opera-tion. Check out the hundreds of photos on the 'B-5 Bettsytown 5 mile' facebook page for a taste of the atmosphere. Our Cilles AC members were out in force, the tasks they performed are too numerous to men-tion but it's safe to say as a club we did ourselves proud, well done to you all. Thanks to our main sponsor NSP Lab So-lutions who have for the last three years been our anchor sponsor and their input has really made this race the success it is. Thanks to the Laytown and Bettystown Golf Club for the use of their function room, the post race celebration was the icing on the cake. St. Comcilles and Tes-cos very generously allowed us the use of their premises for number and t-shirt col-lection. This year Flogas sponsored our water stations, Avonmore had a stand at the finish dishing out protein milk. Also Claire Lannon Podiatry - sponsorship, Gerry at Crazy Fruit for bananas and ap-ples. Spot prizes : Relish, Homestore Hardware, Burkes Chemist, Donebate Golf Club and Cool Beanz. Thanks to all our sponsors.Thank you to everyone who helped on the night, there were no small jobs and no matter what your involvement, all at Cilles AC would like to say a big thank you. Thanks to the motorists of Bettystown for their patience while we got our athletes August 2017 The Meath Coaster ©41round the course and safely off the road.Beach 3K Fun Run and Kids RacesOn Saturday the 16th of September at 12pm, Cilles AC will host a 3k fun run and kids races, something for all the fam-ily. Details will be on Cilles Athletic Club Facebook page and on www.cillesac.ie.July RoundupThe B5 has been dominating our thoughts but there was plenty of running action go-ing on in the club. Karen and Aishling took on the Dunshaughlin 10k at the end of June. We had our own 'Beach handicap 5k', well done all who came out, that even-ing was a scorcher! On the 30th of June, Shane Finn finished his 9th marathon of 24 in Betystown, Cilles AC runners complet-ed the last few miles with him. Delighted to say that Shane has since finished his 24 marathons and raised over 100,000 for Spina Bifida Ireland. The Dunleer 4M was held on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, our club members decided to take on the run in the heat, instead of hanging around the beach with an ice-cream! In contrast to the lovely weather we had for the B5, the following day brought torrential rain but that didn't deter our juveniles who came out for the first night of the J-league series, well done to a dedicated bunch of athletes and coaches. This is the first year our older juveniles have qualified for the national championships, well done to Holly, Lauren, James and Darragh, each of you are improving all the time, your club is very proud of you all.Bigi linn ag rith §Chess ClubThe Drogheda chess club will meet for the start of a new season on Tuesday 5th September at Reddans Bar, Bettystown at 8.15pm. While training for the London marathon he decided to enter a race called Last Man Standing in January 2016, as a 20 mile training run for Lon-don. On the day, he kept going and did his first ultra at 36.2 miles. He spent the rest of the year after London mountain racing as that’s where his heart is. He finished 10th in his age category for the season. He finished 10th overall, his best international finish, in the night-time sprint straight up Slieve Donard. Last Man Standing for 2017 came around on 18th February and Ciaran ran 80 k in his Star of the sea vest to do his best distance yet on trails. His goals for 2017 are the British Championships Donard challenge, some mountain races and then the inter-national 24 hour race in Belfast where he aims to surpass 80k and after that it’s the skyline MTR 17 at the end of the year.Ciaran’s old club, Murlough A.C. come down in force every May to support our 5k road race and we are delighted to welcome them to Stamullen. Kieran is generous with his time and training in the club and the offer is always there to go mountain running with him, he promises the pace will be matched to the slowest runner. §August 2017 The Meath Coaster ©44The girls teams had their awards night in June in Whyte’s function room and it was a terrific night. We have applied for a small capital grant in or-der to provide some extra lighting to our car park, which is very much needed for our busy training schedule in the winter months. High on our immediate agenda is the removal and replacement of the car park fence. The existing fence just simply won’t last another winter and must be re-placed. We aim to deliver fresh running water to the coffee shop so that we can roll out better facilities for the club. And of course, we are all working incredibly hard on our new 2020 vision where we aim to realize the challenge of delivering a new functional clubhouse along with a floodlit 11-a-side AWP among many other things.Of course, you will soon be back to train-ing and will see the great work done by our volunteers painting the Red Card Café in the club colors (see photo). Representing the club was a team made up of Lindsey ilona Brady, Mairead Dolan, Lisa O’Brien and Marie Delaney Moore. The girls performed ex-tremely well, and their combined scores bought them 4th place, and a qualifying place at this years National Champion-ships in August. Their placing denied last years Champions, Border Counties RC a qualifying spot. Lindsey and her horse Trigger Joe also went on to place 2nd in-dividually in an extremely competitive intermediate class. Mairead and Prince were 3rd in the Advanced Inter class, and in the same class Lisa and Giddy performed brilliantly, but were unlucky to be out of the placings. Marie and her horse Susie were 4th in the Primary class, placing just behind club mate Ciara McKeown and Bailey who individually claimed the top spot. These are incredible results, and we wish the girls the very best of luck at the National Dressage Championships. The National SJ Championships were also recently held at Mullingar EC, and again Castle Hill Riding Club Over the last month, the members of Castlehill RC have been out com-peting across a range of disciplines, with some stellar results.
